Yeah, I had found a place in Orlando that would do them but they would only pump them up to 10-15 lbs. It was your job to fill it the rest of the way and you couldn’t do it on their property.

There are shops here who repair them regularly. No big deal, but it is taken very serious.

Didn’t see anything about pins on the first page, so if you keep the safety pins in that keep the seat from firing until the aircraft is outside the hanger at least you won’t hit the hanger roof.
That doesn’t mean you still won’t be killed especially if the seat doesn’t have zero speed and altitude capability. It takes a pretty expensive seat to lift you out and up far enough for the chute to deploy without forward motion of the aircraft and while on the ground. Speed and altitude work in favor of cheap egress systems.
Perhaps rather than calling them cheap, It might be better to refer to the parameters that testing indicated the seats had. Exceed the parameters and you could end up a fatality. All of the early jet fighters had ejection seats with parameters that needed some speed and altitude to insure your survival.

During egress maintenance training for the T-33/37/38 we were always reminded of safety when working on and in the cockpit. Nothing could be stored in your pockets, especially the back pockets that could hang up with the ejection handles. Early in USAF history with the development of the ejection seat this happened accidentally and a mechanic was killed.

When I first read it, I envisioned in my mind a 14 yo Jewish teen with a Xbox controller in his hand. Israel seems to have skills to get things to blow up remotely.

The Iranians are still flying the F-14 Tomcats we sold them.
They must be doing something right.

I actually remember my father telling me of an incident where either someone in maintenance or the flight crew intentionally ejected in a hanger to “check out”. He was actually working near by. Been many decades ago.
