Maryland’s largest hospitals and health systems, including University of Maryland Medical System and Johns Hopkins Medicine, will require employees to get vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment by the end of the summer, setting the stage for immunization requirements at all other state businesses, workplaces and institutions.
Dr. Mohan Suntha, president and CEO of the University of Maryland hospital system, said officials feel confident in the safety and efficacy of the shots, now six months into the launch of the vaccination campaign in the state and around the country.
“We believe in the science, and we trust the data behind the vaccine development,” Suntha said. “We understand vaccination provides the single biggest opportunity to lead ourselves and society out of the pandemic.”
UMMS, the state’s largest hospital network, was first to set dates, requiring workers to be vaccinated against COVID-19 by the end of the summer. Johns Hopkins Medicine also will require clinical and non-clinical personnel to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by September.

Probably legal, barring the terms and conditions of employment at UM. All employment except the military is a mutual contract.
I am surprised this has not been more widespread.
Walk.
Maryland “Freak State” PING!
Are they so confident as to except all liability explicitly?
The National Labor Relations Board ruled that employer-mandated vaccines are legal but if there are resulting adverse events costs must be covered under workman’s compensation. (Sorry I forgot about the 57 different genders. I meant workperon’s compensation).
They’ll try and work their way out of it. I won’t be the least bit surprised to see “workplace violence” start to happen.
We’ll see how that goes. Penn here in philly has gotten resistance from some nurses who say no to vaccine. It is now in litigation i think.
These liberal states and the woke in private sector businesses and hospitals are going to turn states like Florida, Texas, etc...into meccas of freedom Many people will continue to move to these states for the freedom they offer.
There’s no way they can do this to the union employees.
And if the union employees don’t have to, the hospital won’t have a legal leg to stand on.
And as long as the vaxxes are EUA, they can’t do it to anyone.

(Yeah, I wonder what happens to -man suffixes in the omni-gendered world.)
I wonder what happens in case of death? They are rare
- rarer than being killed by lightning - but they have happened. I guess they just toss a few million at the family.
Believe it or not but there are fellow freepers who are actually pissed off at TX & FL for advocating against vaccine requirements...

Wonderful until vexed person learns, should they get a long-term injury/disability, that they get to meet Mr. Max OuttaPocket forever. When they get laid off after long term disability is exhausted, it’s their problem. FOREVER.
Called both my healthcare provider and life insurance to verify the above and I’ve seen how employer treated a former co-worker who had bad results after back surgery.
Lawyers are going to have a field day.
Employers mandating this may end up having trouble sleeping at night if some people(former employees) end up “loosing everything and then loosing it” due to a mandated vexcine that is still under an EUA.

I’m well aware of the Nanny State Freepers. A pathetic bunch.
It is still in emergency status. It will probably not be removed from emergency status.
While it is in emergency status it CANNOT be forced on someone unwillingly.
“We believe in the science” is now a cult phrase. It’s disgusting.
You can bet your bottom dollar something is going on. There have been quite a few whistleblowers, we could use a few more.
