PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) - Arizona's primary elections are still 11 months away but the gloves are already coming off. A group supporting former Congressman Matt Salmon for governor is set this week to launch its first attack ad against one of his main opponents in the GOP primary.
The 30-second spot questions the conservative credentials of former local TV news anchor turned GOP gubernatorial candidate, Kari Lake. "Lake's a fake who Supported Obama" the narrator of the advertisement says, "No on Lake, we can't trust her."
"The important thing is to define who Kari Lake actually is rather than let her blather about her alleged conservative thoughts and feelings," said Barrett Marson, a spokesman for Arizona Best, the PAC funding the ad.
The attack ad focuses mostly a donation Lake made to Obama in 2008 and also notes that there is no record of her contributing money to Former President Donald Trump. Early polls suggest Lake leads the crowded Republican primary as she has run a campaign tying herself closely to the 45th president.
And the timing of its release is being seen, at least by by some, as evidence that Salmon's supporters are worried about Lake's potential to win the nomination. "What's clear from this (ad) is that Kari Lake is leading in the polls," said Marcus Dell'Artino, a longtime Republican political consultant, who is not affiliated with Lake campaign.
An “assistant Democrat.” Love that expression.
I’ll take Kari over Matt any day. Matt is a YUGE RINO and has stopped several crucial republican pieces of legislation. Kari on the other hand has a past and doesnt deny it, just like Trump and Reagan.

He sputtered for two minutes.
Kari was on Bannon last week and I have to say I was very impressed with her
So is there an actual conservative in the race? I am out of state so I dont know the players.
Matt Salmon ran in 2002 and lost to Janet Napolitano. He had his chance and lost.

My friends the contribution to Obama was inexcusable. She was 39 years old at the time she gave it. Old enough to know better. Another charlatan. Salmon? Jesus Christ! Loser. Looks like a Democrat will win unless another jumps in. Why does feel this like being in car rolling over? You know-feels like it’s in slow motion.
‘Give’ the nomination to Salmon and let him lose. You never know-he just might get lucky. Governors are not as important as the Senate. She’s like the democrats who get by on their good looks and gift of gab. Worked with Obama.
Salmon has no business running. He blew it 20 years ago with this same race against a moonbat Butch Napolitano. We need newer, more hard-charging candidates.
