NASA 'looks to the heavens' for help: Agency enlists 24 theologians to assess how the world would react to the discovery of alien life on distant planets and how it might change our perception of gods and creation

NASA is looking to the heavens for help with assessing how humans will react if alien life is found on other planets and how the discovery could impact our ideas of gods and creation. The agency is hiring 24 theologians to take part in its program at the Center for Theological Inquiry (CTI) at Princeton University in New Jersey, which NASA gave a $1.1 million grant to in 2014.

CTI is described as building 'bridges of under understanding by convening theologians, scientists, scholars, and policymakers to think together - and inform public thinking - on global concerns.'

If we come in contact with a more developed life form, many people will assume that the religion (or irreligion) of that civilization is superior. If all we find are microbes and slime molds, it won’t be much of a problem.

This is the imaginary number of combined synergistic fallacious reasoning in the corollary philosophical world.

The first fallacy is the argument from silence. Then the argument combines the argument from silence fallacy [philosophical square root _/¯ ] with the straw argument fallacy [philosophical -1 ] for 2 synergystic fallacies that are more effective together.

I believe
***Arguing from your own belief. We’re arguing from our own belief. Neither belief is proven so it is a fallacy to argue from it as if it were a given truth.

there is other life out in the universe.
***Coppedge did the math. He found that for a polypeptide to form by chance into an amino acid, it would be 1 in a trillion trillion chance. There would need to be hundreds of thousands of such ‘chances’ so it is 1 in 10^100,000*trillion*trillion chance, which is astronomically impossible even if the universe was trillions of trillions of years old. But you ‘believe’ this in the face of such impossible odds. Logical fallacy.

And if “they” ever visit
***Why would ‘they’? This is an obscure corner of an obscure solar system in an obscure galaxy. We are no more than a cosmic piece of dust that ‘they’ wouldn’t be interested in. To think otherwise is its own form of arrogance.

the believers will be traumatized
***Yeah huh. I perceive the chances of ‘them’ coming to our planet is far less than those hundreds of trillions of trillions but such obvious factuality doesn’t even seem to traumatize you because you are so arrogantly hidebound into your ridiculous philosophy.

when they find out we are not unique and that they do not have a “religion”.
***I just gave you inductive proof that your ‘religion’ is fallacious but it doesn’t stop you.

The arrogance that says we are the only life in the universe is amazing.
***It is mathematically provable to be the case. The arrogance that says we would be of any remote interest to beings who have interstellar capability is amazing.

Aliens are not going to be fallen angels,
***How the hell would YOU know. You’ve demonstrated zero familiarity with the evidence.

minons of satan or some other explanation
***Wow, you just glibly dismiss ‘some other explanation’ even though it’s shown mathematically that you are simply wrong. What arrogance.

by those who believe we are “it” as far as life in the universe goes.
***You display amazing arrogance yourself.

I’d luv to see their faces,
***We all WILL see YOUR face, your countenance when you are proven wrong before the judgement throne. But that’s another set of discussions entirely.

if they have any, when someone tries preaching to them about Christian beliefs.
***Your antichristian bigotry is kind of astonishing. This is a pro-God website. What are you even doing posting on Free Republic?
https://freerepublic.com/help.htm —> Statement by FR’s Founder: -—> “As a conservative site, Free Republic is pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-Constitution, pro-Bill of Rights, pro-gun, pro-limited government, pro-private property rights, pro-limited taxes, pro-capitalism, pro-national defense, pro-freedom, and-pro America. We oppose all forms of liberalism, socialism, fascism, pacifism, totalitarianism, anarchism, government enforced atheism, abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, racism, wacko environmentalism, judicial activism, etc. “ Notice that he STARTS OUT with Pro-God in his definition of conservatism.

If they are smart enough to cross light years to visit here
***As shown above, an impossibility. And an arrogant supposition to begin with.

then they are waaaaay beyond our limited intellectual understanding as we currently perceive
***You got that right, and it is arrogant to presume we would be of the remotest interest to ‘them’...

“life” and it’s existence as it would apply to the universe.
***You sure like to play around with your imagination. Too bad it aint constrained by factuality.

Flame me all you want
***Okay I will. What are you doing on this pro-God website?

but one cannot look at the stars and not wonder where other civilizations exist.
***I can. Knowing the math behind such a ridiculous supposition, I can see your arrogance.

If you are serious, many books have been written on the subject. Start with the nephalim, it will get you started in the right direction. I am currently laid up with a back injury and can’t help you much at the moment. Even famous UFO investigators like Jacque Vallee(sp?) Came to the conclusion they were demonic. Study the nature of angels such as the 3 visitors to Abraham discussing the destruction of Sodom. They were physical, and extra dimensional. Jesus after his resurrection also had these traits. Too much for me to put it all here. That’s why I said to do your own research, there is alot out there. There are many that believe that UFOs will play a part in the end time delusions.

Then it would be beyond your paygrade as well.

It appears that YOU are too simple to absorb the very simple news that if you do not accept Jesus as Lord, as God HImself, as Savior then by your rejection of Him He will reject you for eternity and you’ll end up for eternity away from the God Who loves you.

Naturally, almost everyone who hears such a simple and drastic gospel will run to the whataboutism of ‘what about’ those who never heard of Jesus, that kind of thing. But it does not apply to you. You have heard it. You are responsible for having heard it. That group of people inside that whataboutism are just a corner case that God will consider very faithfully, carefully, and fairly. You are not in that corner case.

[Alex Jones reads the globalist’s white papers and the next phase of their great reset is an alien invasion hoax to terrorize the useful idiots.]

An “invasion by space aliens” would probably be used to explain millions of missing people.

The Transporter (not the movie) got ‘em.

They were “beamed up” en masse.

Yeah, that’s the ticket.

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, Begotten of the Father before all Ages.

“Aliens” will be the manifestation of demons. How many Begotten Sons are there? One.

Hi again—Merry Christmas btw.

I have many issues with scientists and modern science (as you probably can tell).

I find scientists:
—Arrogant while also easily scammed
—Unable to confront or even identify hidden assumptions in their thinking
—Susceptible to peer pressure and willing to fake findings (or remain silent if their superiors are faking it) if it advances their career
—Ignorant of the wild history of science (many “scientists” of the past talked to angels, talked to dead people through mediums, believed in eugenics, etc.)
—Demand “neatness” from nature to make their hypothesis or theories work, even though we now know from chaos theory that nature has no interest in “neatness”.
—Use “Occam’s Razor” to create tunnel vision and eliminate promising other approaches to issues
—Reject anecdotes as data even when the anecdotes are persistent over time regardless of culture
—Insist that humans were and are the most intelligent species on the planet (absence of evidence is not evidence of absence)
—Assume that time is a featureless dimension with no properties of its own—again without study or evidence
—Ignore almost everything that is important to human life and human action—”social science” makes the effort but has proven stunningly useless and subject to the same flaws as other sciences

You seem to be getting your exercise by jumping to conclusions. I do indeed embrace Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior; and, through Him I have ever lasting life.

This is uncoupled from the subject matter since I know of no Biblical content that conflicts with my views.

I’ll be happy to show you how I didn’t jump to conclusions on any other day. It is good for you to write what you wrote on the day we celebrate the birth of our Savior.

Not sure what you mean by this one. Can you Explain?
(Totally agree with others.)

If God didn’t create a dead universe we would have seen life on other planets we have telescopes and satellites that can see light years away.
At some point one must wonder we are alone what if we are just an experiment or a matter of dumb luck?.

“Not sure what you mean by this one. Can you Explain?”

Sure—one of the most basic assumptions of science is the repeatability of experiments over time.

If Experiment A works in Time A and Time B, it is assumed that if you run that same experiment in Time C it will work as well.

Time is therefore treated as background that will have no impact on the experiment—it is a featureless dimension with no properties of its own.

Most folks have not even attempted to deal with this assumption.

One of the few who made the effort was Terence McKenna—while his predictions for the future turned out to be incorrect (he predicted a/the singularity for 2012) he gave an example of how one could approach the issue.

He argued that time was represented by periods of stability and periods of novelty, and argued that the periods of novelty were increasing over time.

Under such a theory the time period when the experiment was conducted would affect the result.

During periods of “high novelty” the experiment would probably fail to reproduce earlier results.

“time was represented by periods of stability and periods of novelty”

Wow. I will have to read up on “time is not necessarily featureless”.

Trying to imagine what a physically novel time period would look like.

Sounds like an idea in That Hideous Strength, a novel by CS Lewis, that time and matter evolve.
