Vladimir Putin offers his casus belli for Ukraine attack
Washington Examiner ^ | DECEMBER 21, 2021 | Tom Rogan

Russian President Vladimir Putin, on Tuesday, delivered three strong signals that he intends to invade Ukraine.

Addressing military commanders and intelligence chiefs at the Defense Ministry, Putin offered a preemptive casus belli to justify invading Ukraine in order to address an existential threat to Russia. The Russian leader warned that the United States "will supply Ukraine with hypersonic weapons," which would reduce the nuclear strike launch-to-target time against Moscow to "five minutes." This, Putin insisted, would pose "the most serious threat" to Russia's security. One that means "we simply have nowhere to retreat further."

Note the explicitly existential nature of Putin's words: facing annihilation, back against the wall. This is not language that offers hope for credible compromise.

Of course, Putin knows full well that the U.S. is not actually going to deploy hypersonic weapons to Ukraine. To do so would be a provocation that would do little to advance U.S. strategic deterrence while giving Russia justification to attack. But what this hypersonic reference does accomplish is to allow Putin to present Ukraine's democratic sovereignty as an existential threat to the Russian people and nation. This hypersonic threat myth, then, is the military partner to Putin's ideological justification of Ukraine as a necessary subsidiary of Russia proper.

The next signal of invasion came from Putin's close friend and defense minister Sergey Shoygu, who invented the threat of an impending American-led chemical weapons attack, claiming 120 U.S. mercenaries had established themselves in civilian buildings along the battle contact line separating Ukrainian and pro-Russian forces in southeastern Ukraine. Shoygu said these Americans are preparing "Ukrainian special operations forces and radical armed groups for active hostilities" and a "provocation" involving "an unidentified chemical component."

Putin apparently sees it as his historic mission to reestablish the Russian Empire. Crimea came first, next the rest of Ukraine. If Finland has any sense they will promptly join NATO if Ukraine is invaded.

Would American Neocons admit Ukraine into NATO?

You bet they would.

Would American Neocons place hypersonic nukes in Ukraine?

Without a doubt.

The only thing stopping them, right now, is the American people. If that bulwark fails, the world will burn.

What Russia fears among other things is a fake chemical weapons attack that will be blamed on Russia like the fake chemical attacks in Syria in recent years.

When he attacks Ukraine and makes it part of Mother Russia, the media will absolve biden of all responsibility, and they will not move the “doomsday” “clock” ahead to 1 second to midnight.

When Trump condemns biden for his sleepy inaction, the media will pounce on Trump.

The problem Ukraine has is, it really, really doesn’t want to fight as it will lose. But let’s think this through. I don’t know what Ukraine’s capabilities are, but if they have the personnel and logistics, they could strike first and probably wipe out fifty percent of Russia’s offensive capability, burn Russia’s supplies and capture large quantities of equipment. Why do I think so? Because I think Russia is posturing, rather than thinking Ukraine is an actual threat. There’s a difference between having troops on the border and those troops being in serious readiness. Now, I think that if Putin thinks he can get away with it...because Biden is weak, yes, he’ll attack. But I doubt they are in a good defensive position and ready for a preemptive strike.

I understand not doing this, as it makes Ukraine the bad guy. Also, people who are about to be killed believe until the bullet strikes their head that it won’t really happen.

Also, suppose Ukraine captures a few nukes. I know I’d be looking for them.

“If Finland has any sense they will promptly join NATO if Ukraine is invaded.”

Yeah, and if the US has any sense it would withdraw from NATO.

NATO is of no benefit to the US at all, ever.

And it’s a major national security liability.

According to the Marxist Left, Pooty's causus belli is legit.

IKts not. Russia does not have a right of expansion as a solitay nation. Pooty had nothing to fear from NATO, hell he sells them gaz. Pooty simply wants to re-establish the USSR soi his Mafia has more territory. Pooty is not a COmmie. He is a facist.

If we don’t protect OUR borders, why lose American lives and equipment over someone elses?

So he clearly intends to invade Ukraine... that’s the bottom line.

It would’ve been funnier if he did it the day after Biden warned him not to.

Ukraine is a hyper-corrupt mess of a country, and the reason that Putin wants to conquer it is because it is so weak and corrupt and would be an easy fight that Russia could pull off.

People just don’t understand how weak Ukraine is.

The reason Germany is wobbling is that with a flip of a switch Putin can make it very dark and very cold in Germany. Perhaps Frau Merkel could be reached for a comment on the matter.

“The problem Ukraine has is, it really, really doesn't want to fight as it will lose”

Well they had better quit poking at the bear then. I understand they have voted to not allow Russian commercial shipping.

Anyone with commons sense who thinks that Russia will just use its ground forces needs to think beyond their noses. Russia will blast the livin hell out of the Ukraine ground forces with their air capabilities.
In the Black Sea, they will use their naval capabilities against any aggression there by NATO forces. Who in their right minds think that NATO naval forces have a chance long term in the Black Sea..
I believe that Russia will use Nuclear tipped torpedoes if it comes to it in the Black Sea.

With the Sh*ts and Giggles administration in, I personally think Russia will move after it makes half hearted attempts in negotiations. Kind of like to ones that went on prior to WW2.

75% of the Ukrainian troops defected in Crimea. Thousands defected and deserted in Donbas.
As for the Ukrainian aggression it is purely hypothetical, but Russia of course wouldn’t consider it as their excess. This would result an all-out retaliation on NATO infrastructure as far as Germany.

Nothing (other than words) will happen before the end of the Olympics in China.

Shortly thereafter China will invade Taiwan and Russia will invade the Ukraine and both will dare old man Biden to do anything about it.

Rogan offers opinion that runs counter to recent historical fact including debunked American Socialist Left Narrative on the source of chemical weapons attacks in Syria, US "Benevolent" "Regime Change" policy in the Middle East, and Globalist "Benevolent" "Color Revolutions" in Eastern Europe and assorted 'Stans.

Rogan notes that US Intelligence assisted Russia in preventing the St. Petersberg ISIS attack without noting that Russia Notified that same Intelligence about the US coddled, Chechen Terrorist Tarsenev Brothers well before the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombing, and was ignored. All the while insinuating that Putin is responsible for "destabilization of U.S. civil society" rather that American Liberal Socialist Marxist Democrats.

Rogan sure loves the American Liberal Socialist Marxist Democrats so much he'll cover for 'em completely.

Utter bulls#it.

Crimea was part of Russia since Catherine the Great took it from the Ottomans in 1783.

Khrushchev transferred it to Ukraine in a deal for political support after the death of Stalin in the 1950s. This would be like a presidential candidate giving Long Island to Connecticut for electoral college votes. New York would never accept this.

In 1990, Sec State James Baker promised Gorbachev that if the Soviet military left Eastern Europe, NATO would NOT expand eastward. Baker promised “the Austrian solution,” a demilitarized and neutral Eastern Europe in return for Soviet force withdrawal.

America and NATO broke this agreement, now NATO extends from Estonia to Romania.

Ukraine is Russia’s final red line. We ignore this geopolitical reality at our own peril.

This has nothing - less than nothing - to do with the United States.

Why is someone asking for a “compromise” with Russia over this?

If the US needed a free hand in Mexico (which, actually, we do) I would not expect it to become an issue of Russian national security.
