“Much of the ethanol produced in the world is actually a petroleum product.”
5%. And it does not go into gas tanks.
Did Biden issue a waiver for the Port of LA so older, more polluting trucks can be used to move cargo? Just asking for a friend......
Indycar has run on E85 since 2007.
Plus from all accounts, that corn will be more useful and needed for feeding animals. Animals, not people. The corn used for ethanol is feed corn, not corn people buy to eat.
I'm sure the owners of all the 200,000 mile beaters on Craigslist are scrupulous to use only E0 fuels.
Don’t know. My Suzuki S40 was carb up until 2019, the last year they made it. Before the enviroturds killed it.
Other point is still valid. Also, why farm when you can pump your fuel from the ground? In the final analysis, there is simply no good or compelling reason to use productive farmland to make motor fuel that is inferior to gasoline.
That’s why they put this under the Agriculture Dept, just like food stamps. The ag lobby is super powerful in DC.
“The article also says it significantly reduces mpg. So it may be cheaper by the gallon but you’ll buy a lot more gallons.”
Costs worked about even before rise in prices. Haven’t seen numbers lately.
As much as I can I run E0 year round.
I do have some Winter E0 put away, but it’s likely only 2 months worth.
“Plus from all accounts, that corn will be more useful and needed for feeding animals. Animals, not people. The corn used for ethanol is feed corn, not corn people buy to eat.”
But people eat the bird, egg, meat, dairy from all those animals that eat the corn...
The memo must have gone out to every bought-and-paid-for media outlet to spread this lie.
Joe Biden created these "soaring fuel prices," and he did it on purpose, right in front of everybody. And everybody knows it.
Before that, they ran 100% alcohol (methanol).
Raw corn is not efficiently digested by animals, particularly cattle. Once the starch has been removed by distillation, the spent grains are very efficiently digested.
Government picking of winners and losers in the energy industry is a really bad idea, but it's a bad idea for reasons wholly unrelated to some imagined notion that the world diets are being deprived of enough corn starch.
And people eat the animals. So the corn is still feeding people.
“are scrupulous to use only E0 fuels. “
Depends on where one lives.
I have to blend 85 with 91 to get 87 Octane E0 to minimize spending where I live.
There are plenty of places iny the good ol’ USA where E0 is basically unavailable.
Oddly enough there seems to be good E0 availability in the heartland of corn, Iowa. [Casey’s is your friend]
Watering down gasoline with cheaper ethanol, which will lower both the price and the mileage per gallon. It will also damage some engines.
Like most democrat policies, as long as it makes them feel like they are doing something, it doesn’t matter if they are only making things worse.
Feed Corn is not used to produce the HFCS commonly used in no shortage of grocery store processed food products?
“The article also says it significantly reduces mpg.”
Energy of E85 is about 4% lower than non-ethanol and about 1% llower than E10 but ethanol has a higher octane offsetting loss a little.
Most drivers will not notice a difference from the E10 presently blended.
With a little chemistry knowledge, there is NO need to put any ethanol in small engines, and at a price no more than regular auto gas.
Just note that ethanol doesn’t bind with with gasoline. In fact, it has a much higher affinity for water.
Using that knowledge, get a clear container - I use a 5 gallon jug from Walmart, with a cap. Pour about 2-3 gallons of gas in the jug... and then pour about a liter of REGULAR WATER in.
Mix well. It will be mixed and cloudy.
Wait about 2 days, and the water separates from the gasoline, WITH the ethanol! Siphon out the water/ethanol.
You’re left with a good quantity of ethanol-free gasoline!
Correct and it would be better to ensure they were fed instead of putting it into our tanks.
