As Donald J. Trump weighs whether to open an unusually early White House campaign, a New York Times/Siena College poll shows that his post-presidential quest to consolidate his support within the Republican Party has instead left him weakened, with nearly half the party’s primary voters seeking someone different for president in 2024 and a significant number vowing to abandon him if he wins the nomination.
By focusing on political payback inside his party instead of tending to wounds opened by his alarming attempts to cling to power after his 2020 defeat, Mr. Trump appears to have only deepened fault lines among Republicans during his yearlong revenge tour. A clear majority of primary voters under 35 years old, 64 percent, as well as 65 percent of those with at least a college degree — a leading indicator of political preferences inside the donor class — told pollsters they would vote against Mr. Trump in a presidential primary.
Mr. Trump’s conduct on Jan. 6, 2021, appears to have contributed to the decline in his standing, including among a small but important segment of Republicans who could form the base of his opposition in a potential primary contest. While 75 percent of primary voters said Mr. Trump was “just exercising his right to contest the election,” nearly one in five said he “went so far that he threatened American democracy.”

j/k, I wouldn't call it "debate", but "raucous conversation."
Nobody knows for sure if it was stolen because there has been no real investigation, except maybe in Arizona. Logistically, it would take years to do an investigation of this magnitude. But gut wise, I think it was stolen. Pennsylvania has had rigged elections for years. I do not recall his name, but IIRC a New York State Senator once admitted it, but had to recant when his party jumped him. I wish I could remember his name, but he was pretty much right I think.
You know what? This great political site seems to be dominated by really old scared GOPers that have lost touch. It’s not what it used to be.
Desantis would be crushed by Trump and he would also ruin his career. Desantis is not that stupid.
Ha ha ha ha oh stop you’re killing me ha ha ha - go away and try another lie - this one aint workin’.
I’d be shocked if the 1/6 committee hearings moved the needle for anyone. Those that hate Trump just hate him more. Anyone that supported Trump sees the witch hunt for what it is. I can’t imagine it changed many minds.
This is just media FUD - they only strategy now is to convince Trump not to run, by suggesting he can’t win.
It’s pathetic.
I agree.
Which explains my simple reference to it.
Cruz is \still\ Constitutionally ineligible.
The vitriol such a statement generated was childish.
Yes we have to worry about mid-terms.
I don’t think it’s as easy as everyone seems to think.
We had better not act like it’s a given that Repubs will take even 1 house.
I have donated what I can to every Freepathon since posting here....
I spend a lot of time here and I thought they have bills to pay so I should do my best.
We can’t afford to lose this place really as a bastion of free speech.
I will of course donate again shortly.
lol... okay NYT
Exactly.
Tired of the slavish sycophantism to a man (with LOTS of flaws).
Trump is about Trump mostly, not as much the country. He is very egotistical and self-centered. EverTrumpers seem more about Trump as well.
I was super busy in 2016, little time for FR, but recall how aggressive some of the Cruz supporters were. The Ron Paul supporters who were purged in 2011 were not aggressive at all, mainly hung out on the foreign affairs threads, and did not so much expect he could win the nomination as they were glad there was a voice warning against all our foreign adventures, and hoped that would get attention. We lost some great Freepers in 2011.
Its actually trumps problem. Needlessly losing voters is not a winning strategy.
I’ve seen a number of good, longtime Freepers who donated regularly leave over the past couple of years because of the rabid conspiracy nuts (mainly Q followers) constantly and viciously attacking and acting like they own the place. Others rarely visit now for the same reason. Some have stopped donating. Some of us send in cash anonymously because we don’t want donations to a Q conspiracy type site on our bank records. If enough of us are doing that, the Freepathon should gain momentum later in the month. We’ll see, I guess.
The shite is being spread thick today by the fake new media: biden tops President MAGA Trump in reelection and now this crap:-)
Count on the NY Times to give Trump friendly advice not to run....... just among friends.
yup
prolly on liz cheney’s presidential campaign committee
Oh, I’m sure the NY Times polling firm has their finger on the pulse of the Republican party.
Dear times: this is why there are primaries. The truth is in the primary process
Problem is after the primary comes the general election. Trump riles the Rat base enough I think they would crawl over broken glass to vote against him. He's not popular among independents either. DeSantis is a better bet because he has less baggage than Trump and is considerably younger than Trump.
