A massive Sahara Desert dust cloud is drifting 5,000 miles over the Atlantic towards the US - and experts have warned it could bring extreme heat while impacting air quality in five southeastern states.
Skies over Florida, along with southern swathes of Texas, Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi, will look 'a little hazy' and could turn brown from the sandy plume as it lingers over the weekend.
Along with haze, the desert dust will catalyze scorching temperatures of around 105 degrees in the Sunshine State and an uptick in allergies - but it will also bring brighter sunsets and suppress tropical thunderstorms, meteorologists have said.

Again? We need to sue the Sahara.
Let’s turn it into glass and stop this nonsense.
Alabama here. Temperature is a normal 90 degrees F right now. Heavy thunderstorms moving across the state from Northwest to Southeast. Will move into Northwest Florida after here. Projected to wash away whatever is left of this dust cloud.
Just as this dust cloud has for millennia. This is nothing new or news worthy at all unless you are young, ignorant and perhaps just plain stupid.
Good maybe it will clear the “Canadian” smoke out of the northeast
I saw on a show about geology that much of Florida blew in from the Sahara.
Wildfires in Canada Sahara Dust on the way....one could write a song about this
What is conveniently left out of the story is that this happens all the time. Every year. The rain forests of Brazil are nourished in part by the airborne dirt from Africa.
Sheesh!
And smoke from the wild fires in British Columbia, the Yukon and Canadian interior are seriously interfering with what should be a rare sunny, clear day here in Southeast Alaska.
The South is getting its just desert
Turn it over to democrats. They’ll run out of sand in a year.
Hey! Knock off the reality.

We could use a little warmth in Alaska this summer. My furnace is running right now. Normally it’s not needed starting in May and lasting until September. I’ve been wearing a long sleeve shirt and fleece vest every day so far.
Oh come on mannnnnn. Must be due to glow bull warming. Same reason those toy Chinese balloons ended up here. Not to mention the heartbreak of psoriasis too. 😁👍. Everything is either Trump, glow bull warming or AR-15s.
Here in South Central PA, we’re still getting milky-white overcast from the Canadian Wildfire smoke. Clouds moving north -> south, and blue sky has been MIA for 10-12 weeks.
I thought Bidens plan was to block part of the sun to slow down Climate Change. Is this not the same thing?
