An insurance company that covered several businesses destroyed during the George Floyd riots in Minneapolis is suing the city for negligence.
“[George] Floyd’s death sparked several days of protests and civil unrest, which resulted in damage to numerous businesses in Minneapolis and Saint Paul, including damage to the insureds’ businesses,” the lawsuit (pdf) states. The Illinois Casualty Company (ICC) paid insurance claims of over $5.6 million in damages “caused by the civil unrest,” according to the lawsuit.
The complaint cites an independent report from Hillard Heintze (HH), a safety and security consulting firm. The city contracted with the firm in 2021 to provide an analysis of how the incident was handled, according to Minnesota-based news platform Alpha News.
“The areas and events that Hillard Heintze focused on included civil unrest that occurred at Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) precincts, 911 response to looting, burglary, stabbings, and shootings, and evacuation of the MPD’s 3rd Precinct,” the complaint stated.
According to the HH report, the city suffered from “minimal direction” during the riots, and the community was “dismayed at the lack of leadership and planning from the city and the MPD, and expressed their overall distrust of the city and MPD officials.”

Insurance Company Sues Minneapolis for Negligence Over Response to George Floyd Riots
Negligence? It was worse than that. Cowardice is what I would call it.
I hope the insurance companies win.
bttt
$5.6 million in damages only?
Heck - 50 BLM protestors just got $10 million from Seattle because the police tried to take back the streets.
“sue” in all cases means the taxpayer is on the hook and those responsible are not and get promoted
Unfortunately, I think you are right.
They have insurance (the city) to cover stuff like this. It’ll pay off, and 6-to-12 months later...the city will get a notice that the yearly amount for coverage is going to triple.
At that point, property taxes will escalate, and the city council will spend months trying to explain the up-tick on taxation...without admitting the riots triggered the pay-out.
Cowardice? Worse than that. It was compliance. It was assent.
I wonder why the policies covered damages from rioting and civil unrest?
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Governor Tim Walz sat on their hands while the city burned. They feared losing the whole city to Antifa and BLM. Today, they can’t even establish a Third Precinct police office after rioters destroyed the original one. Rioters apparently feel its racists to establish police presence in the Third Precinct. So, instead, liberals tear down statues, take Aunt Jemima off the syrup bottle, and remove the native American woman from the Land O’ Lakes butter package but establish George Floyd Square to honor a criminal druggie who died from drugs and not from a cop kneeling on his neck. Google The Fall of Minneapolis and watch the true story. The Minneapolis police force is way down in numbers. It is not a safe city.
Kissin Black Ass is an existential exercise.
Bet the jury pool will be in no hurry to pick their own pockets.
Im surprised them paid, most insurance doesn’t cover “acts of war”. which is what those riots were.
My thought also........ unless there was a very high premium for the coverage.
Incidents like that will just likely be the kiss of death for some of the large cities. They can’t seem to understand that George Floyd was a criminal who died like one & that’s the long & short of it. They will use his memory as an excuse for criminal activity which will make it unsafe for decent folks to live there. That’s how I see it. I wouldn’t move there for all the money there was as it just doesn’t seem like a safe environment.
Hahaha!
The city is being sued based upon an analysis paid for by the city!
Hoisted in their own retard.
...I know...typo...but I’ll let it stand.

It was intentional, less cowardly and more arrogant and dismissive.
Complicity.
The taxpayers should have voted for someone else. Elections have consequences.
