The local radio in Midland home of the Confederate Air Force just announced that they have changed their name. The CAF states that the change is due to loss of corporate sponsors. The new name will be announced later today nothing follows.

sigh...yet another victem of political correctness.... I have no problem with the name change. I've always wondered what the connection was between the Confederacy and the War Birds.

It saddens me to think the Confederate Air Force gave in to this inane political correctness........They've been around longer than those who are trying to destroy their heritage just so no-one is offended. I'm proud of our Confederate Air Force Museum here in Midland!

No, not a PC victim, they are an economic one. You would not believe what aircraft insurance costs today, especially for a high performance acrobatic plane that's WWII vintage. I would love to be able to afford one, but will just have to get by with my 201 Mooney.

They musta got a letter from the G't to cut their planes in half. So now they're gonna have to change their name. Simple.

I've always wondered what the connection was between the Confederacy and the War Birds. It was a bit of whimsy, fercryingoutloud.
Remember before "political correctness" we could all do that?
We are all the poorer for it.
I've always wondered why it is "awful" to offend a handful, but to avoid it, it's OK to offend hundreds of thousands or millions.

I agree with you, but mostly am pleased the group will continue. The headline on this thread was misleading. A change in the name isn't that important but preservation of those great warbirds is, IMHO.

Maybe we ought to ban you until you change your screen name. I can see absolutely no connection between jack and bill. It just isn't right to allow you to continue to use it. Somehow, it's offensive.
Just kidding. Sort of.

The area south of the Nueces river is called the "The Strip". Call them the Strippers .

Well, the name change occurred about 11 minutes ago...anyone know what it is? I think it's a good thing to change the name, not for the PC reasons, but because the old name just didn't reflect their purpose very well. I believe American Heritage is one of their corporate names...I'd like to see them go by American Heritage Flyers.

Sad day, indeed.
I hope to live long enough to see the concept of "Political Correctness" flung on the ash heap of history!

They can call it anything they wish. I will always call it the Confederate Air Force.

Sorry, they are PC victims. They're not going out of existence, just changing the name.
To: razorback-bert
Several quick thoughts, if I may:
1. It is critical that the CAF survive and continue their very good work. It is living history of the best kind.
2. The name is less important that what the organization is doing/stands for.
3. Aside from the PC issues, having a name that more people can relate to and support is a good thing.
4. This heritage needs to be preserved and passed on to our children.
5. Personally, I like the Ghost Squadron and I'll bet those who flew them would too.
