Greenpeace blockade in Rotterdam (Greenpeace blocks US military transport harbor Rotterdam)
Radio Netherlands ^ | Februari 20 2003

Posted on 02/20/2003 3:44:40 AM PST by knighthawk

The environmental organisation Greenpeace is trying to stop a ship carrying US military equipment from sailing from the port of Rotterdam. The organisation has deployed its ship Rainbow Warrior-2 and four smaller vessels. Activists are trying to tie themselves to the ship's hawsers. Police have arrested at least six people.

The equipment on board the ship is destined for the Gulf region. The blockade is intended to reflect to Greenpeace's roots in the peace movement. In a statement, the organisation says that a war would have devastating consequences for both people and the environment.

Two blasts on horn, then damn the commies, full speed ahead.

I seem to remember six blasts as the international maritime signal for an impending collision (from my teenage USN days).

The two horn blasts are from the Highway rules, you give your turn signal two blinks, and then the heck with 'em, you're coming over.

Face it, an unarmed ship full of enviro-nuts is the only force the French military can beat.

a sub? no, too good to deal with them. a destroyer i think would be better suited. a few harpoon missiles will make short work of those boats.

besides, we want them to see it coming, right?

Why are we even allowing unauthorized vessels along side military vessels and transports?

...in other news, Greenpeace's Rainbow Warrior-2 ship has a new mission. It is now the beginning of a nice new coral reef just beyond the mouth of the port of Rotterdam.

I have to admit, the French earned a soft spot in my heart forever with that action. I mean, can you imagine ANYONE daring to do such a thing today?

If anyone tried, they'd be hauled off to the Hague as a "war criminal."

"(Greenpeace blocks US military transport harbor Rotterdam)"

When I read headlines like the above, a passage from Douglas Adams's master work comes to mind:

"Mr. Dent" he said.

"Hello? Yes?" said Arthur.

"Some factual information for you. Have you any idea how much damge that bulldozer would suffer if I just let it roll straight over you?"

"How much?" said Arthur.

"None at all," said Mr. Prosser, and stormed nervously off...

It is time to put a platoon of Marines on each ship.

Then, they can do what our Marines used to do centuries ago. Shot and kill those who got in the way of our ships, and then capture the ships of the trouble makers.

If the GreenPeacers really want to prevent enviromental disaster, they should chain themselves to Iraqi oil wells

I like the way you think!!!

They should. No one elected these dirt worshipers to speak on Americas behalf. They're engaging in facism via anarchy.
When we go to war, shoot to kill.

anyone have specs on the types of ships? just for comparison's sake.

when President Bush announced the War on Terror following the 9/11 attacks, I believe he made it very clear: if you're not with us, you're against us.

this should be like shooting fish in a barrel

:-D

After the Cole, if they try this stunt again on an actual US Navy ship, they will be blown out of the water.
