Congressman Flake Sings the Blues About $800,000 in Omnibus for the Grammy Foundation Why Does the Grammy Foundation Need Taxpayer Money?

Washington, DC – Arizona Congressman Jeff Flake, who represents the state’s Sixth District, today was left scratching his head upon finding out the Grammy Foundation, a non-profit arm of the Recording Academy, received $800,000 in the Omnibus Appropriations Bill for 2003, which was recently signed into law.

“The mission of the Grammy Foundation is certainly noble,” said Flake, “but why is an organization affiliated with thousands of multi-millionaire musicians and record executives receiving taxpayer money?”

“Norah Jones won a handful of awards last night for a song called “Don’t Know Why.” I think that could probably describe a lot of taxpayers trying to figure out why their tax dollars are going to the Grammy Foundation.”

We should ask all movie goers why this money is justified. Hollywood makes BILLIONS from the public year after year.

Yes, it's outrageous. However, it's even more outrageous that Flake learned of it only AFTER he voted for the bill. Why don't those jerks on the Potomac read the bills BEFORE they vote?

The obvious answer is that liberals support all kinds of causes, as long as they can use other people's money. Liberals are cheap bas#*%&$!

Does this make everyone at the grammies government employees? If so I think everyone who works for, presents, and receives grammies should be drug tested.

You got that right. What did Gore give to charity that one year? $386 or so? Got to hand it to you, Al. You really know how to waste others' money while keeping yours in your tight, little, selfish palm. Sure am glad that "President Gore" is only a fantasy phrase.

Because they are afraid that others will not allow them to bring home the bacon to their own state. So it becomes a big orgy of self-interest that will destroy this country. The founding fathers had at least one major blind spot--that government would continue to grow and grown and grown. They should have added into the Constitution that governments at all levels (federal, state, country, city) could never collect taxes that amount to more than 10% of the average citizen's income. That is the only way that government can be controlled--cut off its purse strings.
