A wave of B-52 bombers are set to hit Iraq within the hour, according to reports.
Eleven of the giant warplanes took off from RAF Fairford, in Gloucestershire shortly earlier.
The plane has been in service with the United States Air Force since 1955.
It established its fearful reputation with carpet bombing raids during the Vietnam War.
More recently, it has seen service in Afghanistan, Kosovo and Yugoslavia.

Again! Damn they flip-flop faster than Clinton. We were allowed fly over when I left for work this morning (the Bufs were already in the air then). F em, I think we should fly over them anyway and say our guys were under radio silence. Now that we control h1,2,3 it's all just a technicality any way.

I'm really getting annoyed by Turkey. Clearly they're hoping to pull a Russia and snag some territory. I just hope Franks has the same balls as Patton if it comes to that. If Turkey insists on turning this into a war of conquest I've got no problem conquering Turkey.

I said yesterday that the Turks were behaving like TURKEYS, and then I thought I should retract that after they "let us fly over".....now I'm glad I didn't ....they are idiot TURKEYS!

18 per bird not 12. More than likely they're carrying ALCMs.

They just think this is an opportunity to wipe out a people that have been a thorn in their side. We have no desire whatsoever to be associated with a genocidal crew, whether they be Iraqis or Turks.

Bomber crews are safe. This is meant to send the Iraqis screaming. They're getting notice, then the buffs will drop mile-long chains of 500 lb bombs, and blow everything all to hell. Then we'll announce the next wave of buffs....
Which is peachy, because if I know my Air Force, we're going to do the same thing with the Buffs that we tried to do with B-17's in Russia. 8th Air Force tried taking off from Britain and landing in Western Russia. They would stay for a day, reload, and drop another load on the Reich on their way back to England.
Here, I suspect that all we will do is flyover, drop mile long sticks of JDAM on some hapless Guardia and fly on to Diego Garcia. Upon landing in Diego, we'll reload and fly over Baghdad, where we will drop mile long sticks of JDAM on Mr. Hussein's neighborhood....

It's a beautiful day in my Neighborhood,
a beutiful day in my Neighborhood,
won't you be, my Neighbor..."
Be Seeing You,
Chris

Fox news is confirming eight B52's did leave England. Likely payload (speculation) eight air launch cruise missiles.

Why would you tell the whole world about this??? I bet those bomber crews appreciate it alot We are trying to get the Republican Guard to surrender. It is in our interest to let them know the planes are on the way and they have a window of opportunity to remain alive.
Makes sense, doesn't it?

8 air launch cruise missles in B52's heading for "positioning" according to Major Garrett on FOX Which probably means a launch over the Mediterranean, with overflights of Jordan.
ALCMs are not a "shock and awe" sort of weapon -- they go boom, but there aren't all that many booms in 8 B52s. So what do you suppose they're going to hit with such fanfare?
