......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

As usual, I went above and beyond the call of duty for you, my dear, loyal readers. This time, my quest for the dirt, uh, truth about the intensely private Tatze took me to the backwoods of Georgia. Can you say, "Kudzu?" I thought Texas was rough, but my dear fans I have got to tell you, peaches and peanuts aside, there is *nothing* glamorous about"Jawjah." But, nothing is too good for my loyal followers. I donned my finest DKNY jeans, borrowed the company H2 (and Lars, driver extraordinaire), and journeyed into the deep, dark, cottonfield-speckled wilds of Georgia to bring you:

dansangel: Are you originally from this God-forsaken state?

Tatze: I am originally from a small town in north NJ (Kinnelon). The area is still fairly Republican, despite the rest of the state.

dansangel: That must be why you ran away from there...

Tatze: I don't recall too much political activity growing up. I do remember voting with my parents when I was rather young. They used the old lever voting machines that you stand in with the curtain and all. They had a mini voting machine set up for the kids and I was there with one or both of my parents at each election they voted in. Other than those times voting, I really don't recall too many political discussions around the house. My parents were not active in the party or anything. dansangel: Sounds like your parents tried to give you a good non-partisan upbringing, but something went wrong. To what would you attribute that?

Tatze: There is one thing that when I look back at it now amazes me. Maybe its just that it was a Republican area in general, or just a different time. I would be amazed to see something like this today with a Republican President. My fifth grade class all signed a large get well jelly bean poster and sent it off to President Reagan after he was shot.

dansangel: Aha! So it was your fifth grade teacher that ruined you!

Tatze: The first election I actually voted in that I can remember, was in 92. I was old enough and I imagine I voted in 88, but I just don't remember. I was not very active politically back then, or really at all until mid 1995 after moving to Georgia in Dec 94. I never went to any College Republican meetings in college or got involved in any campaigns. I was just like many of the people I shake my head at today, politically clueless. Well, I guess I wouldn't say clueless. I knew I was a conservative, or at least a Republican, and I did vote.

dansangel: Sheesh....talk about clueless....

Tatze: In mid-95 I got involved in the North Fulton Young Republicans, simply as a meeting attendee and then as a somewhat active member. After a year or so I had taken on a position on the board of NFYR, Fundraising I think. I moved on to a few years as Membership Director, and for the past two years, I have been the Chairman of the club.


My Chairman term will end next Tuesday (ed. note: last week as we went to press) and I am poised to take on the position of Co-Chairman of the Georgia Federation of Young Republican Clubs at the State Convention in April.

dansangel: OK...I might as well get it over with because I just *know* where all of this is leading. Are you, or are you not a member of that vast right-wing conspiracy-laden website, Free Re-...ahem, uh, Free Re-...I can barely bring myself to say it out loud. *ACK!* Free Republic?

Tatze: I don't recall how I first found FreeRepublic, but I signed up in September of 98 and mostly lurked for a while.

dansangel: Have you ever taken the the streets with that group..."FReeping" as they put it?

Tatze: My first official Freep was when Clinton came to town, probably in 98 or 99. I remember meeting up with YaYa123, SuzanneC, and some others that I don't recall anymore. That really was it until this past Saturday (ed. note: the March 15th Support America gathering in Atlanta that drew 20-25,000 supporters), as far as actual freeping goes.

dansangel: So, Free Republic has totally consumed your life, is that it?



Tatze: Most of my political activities have been with NFYR, the Fulton County GOP, or individual campaigns. I am also a member of the NRA and Gun Owners of America.

dansangel: A gun nut. Why am I not surprised??? Anything else you'd care to share with us?

Tatze: I have had brief thoughts of running for elective office, but then I come to my senses. I may consider running at some point in the distant future, but not any time soon.

dansangel: I don't know about anyone else, but I've had enough talk about the right-wing fanatics for one day. Thank-you for your time.
