Operation Military Pride is proud to be organizing the committee to present the first annual Rally for Support of our military, Operation Yellow Ribbon! On Armed Forces Day, May 17, 2003, we will be hosting a support rally at the Lincoln Memorial Monument to show our support for all of our deployed military members. We are teaming up with many other organizations in trying to show our men and women overseas that they are not forgotten.

With all of the attention being focused on anti-war rallies and human shields voluntarily leaving for Iraq, we thought it was just as important to focus some of our attention on supporting those who are away from their friends and family, fighting for the freedom of others.

This rally will take place in the vicinity of the Lincoln Memorial Monument/Reflecting Pool from 5 p.m. through 8 p.m. and will end with a candle lighting ceremony, honoring those who are deployed. We are asking everyone who can attend to bring a picture of their loved ones with them, as well as any other banners or signs (tactful and peaceful) that you wish.

For those of you who would like to come show your support we will have cards and banners for signing as well as booths to videotape messages for deployed service members. We were able to procure discounted room rates as well from $79 per night. Follow link to reserve your room.

Our committee is currently awaiting verification from keynote speakers and others who may make appearances at this event. This historic event is guaranteed to be an entertaining day for the entire family. We will have plenty of events for children as well as adults and will have plenty of freebies for those who attend.

T-shirts and hats are available for those who would like them. or they will be available at the meet and greet as we cannot sell on the premises. All proceeds from this event will go to purchasing and sending care packages to deployed service members. This is a fantastic opportunity to show your support for our fighting men and women. Regardless of your opinion on the politics of these deployments, it is important to let those fighting know that they have our support.

If you would like to participate, but cannot get to Washington D.C., we are trying to get local walks and support rallies to run concurrent with ours nationwide. Please contact us if you would like to help organize a local rally.

If you represent a business or organization, and would like to help sponsor this event, please contact us so that we can discuss how we can help you support your armed sevice members.

Found this surfing the Internet for other rallies. It might be a good thing for FReepers to join up with these folks to promote this rally.

I think there will be lot's of plans for Armed Forces Day, I know we are planning something her in LA!

Boy, just can't keep up with all these "support the troops" rallies! Ain't it great!

Is this just a one time event in DC? Is so, it may be best for the DC Chapter to hook up woth them.

Nowwww people want to do rallies. Sheesh. At least it'll probably be nice weather, LOL. I'm sure we'll be there in one way or another. Right now we're concentrating on the Support the Troops Rally by Citizens United this Saturday, April 12 from noon to 3 p.m. on the Mall in D.C. between 3rd and 4th St., NW.

They are apparently trying to organize local rallies around the country as well. Might be good for FReeper chapters to contact them about co-sponsoring rallies on Armed Forces Day. Better to pool resources. I don't know if they plan rallies on other days. Best to inquire via their web site.

Yellow ribbons are the hallmark of Jimmy Carter-era ineffectual, leaderless military inactivity.

Let's lose the whole "yellow ribbon" B.S. and focus instead on counting how many Iraqis we can put under the sand!

I agree re your comment on yellow ribbons. As Ligeia opines "No yellow ribbon for me, only the red, white, and blue will do."

A McHenry County woman who has collected nearly $300,000 to help boost the morale of troops overseas has been sued by the Illinois attorney general amid concerns about how the money was spent, officials said Wednesday.

Arlyn McClaughry and her organization, Operation Military Pride, were sued this month after officials determined there was no way to tell where the money went.

Bummer that they seem to be a scam. I did caveat my posting saying that I found it surfing the Net and that FReepers should contact them about mutual support the troops rallies. In no way did I advocate giving them any money. It is a shame that some would use our troops to trick people into giving them money, that would be used for other purposes than stated.
