Navy pilot John "Skip" Lussier has made hundreds of aircraft carrier landings but none like his pressure-filled touchdown on the USS Abraham Lincoln with President Bush in the cockpit.
"The pressure was ratcheted up just a little bit, but I tried not to think about it," Lussier said Friday on ABC's Good Morning America. "I just wanted to focus on it as a mission and make sure I got the president aboard safely."

Wrong. Full power is applied on touch down in case of a missed wire, bolter. Fly an approach at full power and the LSO will wave you off.

According to John Scott who is on board the USS Abraham Lincoln, the New York Times wrongly (so what's new?) reported that the pilot grabbed the fourth & last cable. It WAS the fourth cable, but it wasn't the last. It was actually the first. The cables are numbered 4,3,2,1. The numbers start with 4 from the first cable at the approach end of the carrier and go down to 1. The New York Times just can't stop their bias with our President!!

Fox reported this morning that it was caught by the #4 cable.
The #4 cable is the first cable to catch, not the last.
The New York Times reported that the #4 cable was the last cable and everyone has been repeating that ever since in error.

oh come on..give the poster a break. Besides, posting a USATODAY article is just the kind of information I like to see. USATODAY is read by the masses, we need to to know what they're being fed, in this case, a most flattering article about just one of America's pilots, who most certainly deserve the attention.

The approach end of the carrier is the stern of the ship. From the stern forward, the cables are numbered 1, 2, 3, 4. They snagged the last cable, number 4.

On the landing, a tailhook on the back of the plane caught the last of four steel arresting cables stretched across the moving carrier. The cables stop the aircraft within 350 feet, subjecting passengers to twice the force of gravity, or two G's. Ideally planes are caught by the second cable. Incorrect interpretation by usatoday and many other outlets.
Fox a little while ago wanted people to know that Cmdr Lussier caught what is known as the fourth cable, but that is actually the FIRST one in position.
This was called a picture-perfect landing by the Fox guy.
