BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- The Rev. Jesse Jackson urged the University of Alabama on Monday to consider hiring a black to replace football coach Mike Price, fired over allegations of personal misconduct.

Speaking in a telephone interview with The Associated Press, Jackson said the hiring process at Tuscaloosa should focus on "the best coaches available in the market."

Couple things wrong with that:
a) I'm sure the people that mow the lawn at the stadium have a track record of service, but you don't want them running the team
b) how does this jibe with his wanting a particular race to run the program there?

I know, I know, I'm expecting a lot asking for consistancy out of Rev Jackson.

I suppose Jessie would like Bama to take Dennis Green, former Viking coach, who was accused of sexual harrassment a couple of times. That fits with Jessie's conduct. Sly Crooms is a Green Bay assistant who is also being named as a potential for the job. He played at Bama and is black. He like Shula has no prior head coaching experience, but both have been career NFL assistants.

Well, one good thing about a black coach at 'Bama, you know Jesse would never let them fire him for going to a nudie bar. Haven't the mothers of some of Jesse's illegitimate children worked in nudie bars?

You've got to hand it to Jesse. Every time there is a vacancy of any kind, he calls and urges black candidates and offers his help as a search firm. Of course, he hasn't said anything to the dems about Sharpton as their candidate or "threatened" them with anything when they reject Al, as they surely will.

Until Wllingham wins a national championship and/or has amassed victories like Paterno and Bowden, he is not the best college coach in football.
