It's a Byrd, S-3B Viking -- it's Taco Bell's dog
Orlando Sentinel ^ | 5/11/03 | Kathleen Parker

Sometimes the best political strategy is simply to stand still and allow yourself to be attacked by the wrong guy.

snip

We are witness to such a phenomenon as George Bush -- cheered, regaled and not-bad in his Top Gun duds -- finds his form-fitting aviator pants leg in the clenched teeth of Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., playing the Taco Bell Chihuahua to Bush's Rin Tin Tin.

snip

As one-two punches go, the Byrd/Waxman sally was a bad day for nerds everywhere. Performing a whiney duet of the desperate, they managed to evoke images of skinny boys studying the quarterback's swagger for clues on cool. It's almost as painful to watch them contort in envy as it must have been for them to watch Bush, a stud muffin no matter what his other flaws, arriving on a testosterone bullet to the cheers of 5,000 sailors.

Not to mention the living-room applause of an appreciative nation not nearly as perplexed as pleased by the pageantry clearly intended. Who cares if it was a photo op? It's our photo op, which the other envy-boys around the world also got to see.

snip

By attacking the right guy at the wrong time, Byrd and Waxman not only have harmed their cause, but aided the Bush ascendancy. For now the president is not only a daring jet rider, he's a victim of empty criticism. The hero-victim doesn't have to do anything but stand still -- and no doubt fight the urge to say, "Yo quiero a Waxman and Byrd."

Even if for some reason the White House doesnt use the footage, there are plenty of others who will, the RNC, Fox, FR, etc. Even the diehard liberals I work with are grudgingly impressed.....and trust me, thats saying something!

Where do yo get all those cute happy faces that decorate your posts?

Like any good Republican, I steal them from the poor.

No, seriously, I filch some from other posts on Free Republic. And many message boards, especially those dealing with "less serious" topics such as sports, have a list of them. Typically, you have to register for the forum before you have access to such lists, but of course, once you see a "smilie" posted on FR or elsewhere, you, too can steal it. I assume you know how, but in case not...

This thirsty guy comes from, of all places, a BMW enthusiasts' forum -- but obviously, they stole it from someone else; I've seen it lots of places. To grab it, right-click the image; click "properties"; right-click near the URL until a box pops up; click "select all," which should highlight the address; right-click the address; click copy; and proceed as you would for adding any image to your post.

As the young 'uns say... Rock on.

Last night on the Neil Cavuto Show during the section where he reads mail from the viewers, he read an e-mail that I think should be the quote of the day:

"I would rather have a President that lands on an Aircraft Carrier than have a President that lands on an Intern.

This guy has to be a Freeper

If Kerry gets the nomination...I REALLY, REALLY hope some rich republican makes a commercial of him throwing his Viet Nam medals off the Lincoln Memorial...wouldn't that be a great one?????? I remember seeing that film clip, it was a big protest and there he is...throwing medals putting down the war, the president and everyone else...ONLY it turns out that he was throwing someone else's he only PRETENDED they were his!!!

Anyone unable or unwilling to write in a candidate wouldn't vote Republican anyway.

Actually, I think this will play very well as RAT pettiness.

In act, it is official Navy policy to never arrive early, since it is a disservice to waiting families, who would miss the opportunity to greet their Navy loved ones.

Everyone with Navy connections who has ever made plans to meet the return of a deployment knows this. Why do the members of the leftist press think they can spin a lie to their audiences?

Everytime one of them reports that President Bush "held up the ship" more Americans come to the realization that some news outlets are flat out lying to their audiences.

I am sure that an aircraft carrier's cruise plan includes getting as close to the coast as a five-day sail allows to make the flying off of the fighter squadrons as short as possible, another fact that a reporter.should be able to easily learn.

I agree with the purpose of the run so as to try and keep Winston as the prime sponsor of the Series. However, 170mph coming out of turn 4 (as I glimpsed it on tv) was highly unlikely the speed. 170 coming out of that turn is ultimate max speed, as in heading for the finish line in a real NASCAR event at Lowe's. Also, this being a promotional gig, a much lower speed would be more believable.
