USO Canteen FReeper Style ~ Camp Run-A-Muck ~ WooHoo! ~ June 13, 2003 FRIDAY the 13th!

Posted on 06/13/2003 3:34:16 AM PDT by tomkow6

For the freedom you enjoyed yesterday...
Thank the Veterans who served in
The United States Armed Forces.

Looking forward to tomorrow's freedom?
Support The United States Armed Forces Today!

It's Friday the 13th
with so much to dread.
Some people ignore it
and just stay in bed.

Are you superstitious?

...walk under ladders?....throw salt over your shoulder?.....black cat cross your path?.....lucky horse shoes?......Ladybird, ladybird, fly away home......Skin Of Your Teeth?.........
3 lights on a match?......did you drop the scissors?....were you singing before seven?.... did you bite you tongue?...

All this, & perhaps MORE than you may want to know today at

Superstition Camp RUN-A-MUK!

Get a rabbit's foot, a 4-leaf clover
or even a horseshoe.
If you think that might help,
it could always be true.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Where the Plan Of the Day is: Mirth...Merriment...and FUN!
Kick back! Relax! Tell a joke or two! Have a brew !

The BAR is OPEN!  We've got Eye candy...Mind candy...and

Chicken soup for the soul!

But no matter how much it
seems like an unlucky time,
It isn't any fun
to sit home and whine.

So, I've only got one thing to say...

The Fisher House program is a unique private-public partnership that supports America's military in their time of need by providing homes close to a loved one during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury.

There are currently 31 houses located on the grounds of every major military medical center and several VA medical centers. These houses will play a critical role in caring for casualties from Operation Iraqi Freedom. Donations will be used to help meet the cost of lodging for a family whose loved one was injured in Operation Enduring Freedom or Operation Iraqi Freedom. There is a limit to the number of families who can stay in a Fisher House and program is committed to help provide lodging for families who must find commercial lodging, because the Fisher House is full.

Today's FEEBLE attempt at humor:

If lawyers are disbarred and clergymen defrocked, doesn't it
follow that electricians can be delighted, musicians denoted,
cowboys deranged, models deposed (and eventually disfigured)
and dry cleaners depressed?

Laundry workers could decrease, eventually becoming depressed
and depleted!  Even more, bedmakers will be debunked, baseball
players will be debased, landscapers will be deflowered, bulldozer
operators will be degraded, organ donors will be delivered, the
BVD company will be debriefed, and even musical composers will
eventually decompose. As a student, I spent all my time wishing
to be detested and degraded.

On a more positive note though, perhaps we can hope politicians
will be devoted.

Why Friday the 13th Is Unlucky

Part 1 of 3

Paraskevidekatriaphobia - Fear of Friday the 13th

Friday 13th is unlucky for some. The risk of hospital admission as a result of a transport accident may be increased by as much as 52 percent. Staying at home is recommended.

Paraskevidekatriaphobics — people afflicted with a morbid, irrational fear of Friday the 13th — must be pricking up their ears just now, buoyed by evidence that their fears may not be so irrational after all. However, it's unwise to take solace in a single scientific study (the only one of its kind, so far as I know), especially one so peculiar. I suspect it has more to teach us about human psychology than it does about any particular date on the calendar.

The sixth day of the week and the number 13 both have foreboding reputations dating from ancient folklore. Their inevitable conjunction from one to three times a year portends more misfortune than some credulous minds can bear. Folklorists say it's probably the most widespread superstition in America (and no doubt in other parts of the world, as well) — some people won't go to work on Friday the 13th; some won't eat in restaurants; many wouldn't think of setting a wedding on the date.

So, how many people at the turn of the millennium still suffer from this phobia?  According to Dr. Donald Dossey, a therapist specializing in the treatment of phobias and credited with coining the term "paraskevidekatriaphobia," as many as 21 million do in the United States alone. If that figure is correct, something like eight percent of Americans are still in the grips of an old superstition.

Exactly how old is difficult to say, because tracking down the origins of superstitions is an imprecise science, at best. In fact, it's mostly guesswork.

Good Morning Tomkow6. Good morning to our military and good morning to the whole Canteen crew. Going to be a great day at camp today.

Warm up exercise for today . . . . .

Top 5 reasons that women prefer Military men for husbands:

5. They already know how to cook.

4. They know how to sew.

3. They know how to clean.

2. They look GOOD in a uniform.

And the Number One Reason . . . .

1. THEY ALREADY KNOW HOW TO TAKE ORDERS !

Two blondes were playing golf at a foggy par three, and could see the
flag, but not the green. Each hit their ball anyway. When they walked to
the green, they discovered one about three feet from the cup, while the
other somehow had gone directly in.

They tried to figure out which ball belonged to who, since they were
both using Titleist number threes. Unable to decide, they returned to
the Club House and asked the golf pro for a ruling.

After hearing their story and congratulating them both on their superb
shots under such adverse conditions he asked, "OK, so which one of you
was playing the yellow ball?"

I'll see your blondes and raise you a cute little kid . . .

It was the first day of summer school and the teacher thought she'd get to know the kids by asking them their names and what their fathers did for a living.

The first little girl said, "My name is Mary and my daddy is a mailman."

The next little boy said, "I'm Andy and my Dad fixes cars."

It was then little Johnny's turn and he said, "My name is Johnny and my father is a striptease dancer in a bar for gay men."

The teacher gasped and quickly moved on, but later, in the school yard, the teacher approaches Johnny privately and asks if it was really true that his dad dances nude in a gay bar. Little Johnny blushed and said, "No, he really plays guitar for the Dixie Chicks, but I was too embarrassed to tell anybody.

Nightfall celebrated its 11th Anniversary as Southern Arizona's largest Halloween amusement attraction in 2002. During the fall of each year, over 60,000 revelers come to experience the transition of Old Tucson Studios into the haunted town of Nightfall. Since 1991, Nightfall has incrementally grown by adding new features and attractions. Last year, the newest Nightfall feature was the "Scream Zone," a special area with amusement rides for adults and children, located in the Rodeo Arena and near Stage 2. Back by popular demand was the Treat Trail, the only west-side area safe haven 'trick or treat' environment for children ages 12 and under, located in the Silverlake section of the park. Vendors from the community (retailers, associations and charities) participate by distributing Halloween goodies at their festively decorated booths. Several mascots also joined the Treat Trail festivities, including Wilbur the Wildcat (above, left), McGruff the Crime Dog and Boomer Bear from Bear Essential News.
