MOSUL, Iraq (Reuters) - U.S. soldiers stormed a house in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul on Tuesday, killing one Iraqi and seizing key allies of Saddam Hussein who were hiding inside, a U.S. officer at the scene said.
"Individuals of very high interest to the coalition forces were hiding out in the building," Lieutenant Colonel William Bishop of the 101st Airborne Division told Reuters.
Local residents said there had been rumors that Saddam's sons Qusay and Uday had been hiding in the city.
"This morning we went to the building and surrounded it, and detained several of these high-interest personalities," Bishop said.
Witnesses said U.S. soldiers were fired at by people inside the house as they approached. The Americans called in helicopters to subdue the resistance before storming the house.
Bishop said one Iraqi had been killed and five wounded in the battle.
The house, a large villa, was badly damaged, and its roof caved in after it was apparently hit by a missile.
U.S. forces have announced the capture of 34 of the 55 Iraqis on a most-wanted list of members of Saddam's regime, but Saddam and his sons have not been found.
U.S. officials say Saddam is probably still alive and hiding somewhere in Iraq. Audio tapes said to have been made by the deposed leader have been given to Arab television networks, exhorting Iraqis to fight occupying U.S. and British troops.
Guerrilla attacks against U.S. forces have killed 39 American soldiers since May 1 when President Bush declared major combat over. On Sunday, two U.S. soldiers were killed in an ambush to the west of Mosul.

I think we are about 3 steps behind finding Hussein. This story demonstrates the U.S. Military's ability to get some people of "very high interest"
I am giddy at the opportunity of catching Hussein and watching the Democrats look like bigger fools than they already look

everyone who is talking about a quagmire is going to end up looking like a fool in about 3 months -- just like everyone who was talking about a quagmire during the war ended up looking like a fool after about 3 weeks had passed. Same difference, just a longer lead time in the anti-quagmire result.

We should capture him about the same time the Democratic attack ads start getting fired up. Burst balloon. All that Rat money spent for nothing. What a shame. Tsk, tsk, tsk.

If this keeps up it looks like the only people left to pay scum for killing Americans in Iraq will be the Democrats.

Well, it might create a problem if we have Saddam actually
alive. We are liable to get him into Gitmo and then all the human rights attorneys and Judeo Christian altruist Occidental liberal media would try to water down our prosecution and punishment, and he could essentially rule from exile in prison and keep anti-US elements alive.
What needs to happen is a 'mistake' when he is transferred, that he falls into Kurdish northern forces control, they have their own trial, they string up the body ala Mussolini, the image permeates all of the mideast, and the rebel remants begin to lose hope and fold their cards.

he falls into Kurdish northern forces controlIf that happens, and I hope it will, then it will take many strings to get all his body parts hoisted.

Can you direct me to a source of information re the Thor's Hammer project? Thanks.

Is this the point in the thread where someone is supposed to suggest

Better yet, drop him off in the south with all the Shiites he oppressed. I'd love to see Arab news networks showing pictures of him being stoned/shoed to death.
