Rush made no excuses. He blamed no one. He took responsibility for what has occured and that means he's half way back already.

I am also very interested in a daily prayer thread for Rush...There is nothing as powerful as prayer.

Face it, rich white junkies (especially ones who espouse your own political views) are some much more palatable than the poor, minority, street version

Posting under dual names Wolfie? Seems like you are taking rightbanker's reply #222 of this thread for a "touchdown", IMO.

Sorry wolfster, you got intercepted.

Thank you. I agree completely. This just may prove to be a blessing to him in the long term. I pray it will be.

Actually, I thought it was full of emotion. He had to be somewhat choked up knowing he was going to tmake that admission the whole show long.

I think you got me mixed up with somebody else. I'm certainly not smug.

I lost my own brother to drug addiction. I know first hand what Rush and his family are going through. I have deep sympathy for him, as for his family, as for the millions of addicts, rich and poor, black and white.

So chill, Dane, chill. Why are you so defensive??

"But he isn't any different at bottom from any other junkie. He is no longer in control of his life. He lives for a highly addictive drug."

Unless you know Rush personally, then you're really just blowing smoke out of your ass, now aren't you? Rush has been functioning just fine for the past 5-6 years, and has shown no signs of being in a downward spiral.

You are 100% correct.

I can't even picture Dubya doing this to someone.

Well, my mental image of you is further shifting. Sweet!

I wonder what the original one was.

His surgery pain is not an excuse, and if Rush meant it when he said he is not a victim

He says he's not a victim but uses the back surgery excuse at the same time? RB, if you are in recovery, you can smell that...

And he does not sound good on the radio today at all. He's wavering in and out of a buzz.

Kerry said in the debate last night:

"In order to be assured prescription drugs in this country, you could hire Rush Limbaugh's housekeeper or be elected president of the United States."

blackie cleared that up about 200 posts ago---he accidentally typed in his BIRTH year, rather than the year he became 'clean and sober."

Isn't there some way to have these drugs only kill pain and not produce any 'positive' effects like feeling good? That's the only answer.

This isn't really possible in any useful sense for most purposes. The body isn't "engineered" to make pain management a simple problem without trade-offs, so we do the best we can to balance the inherent costs with benefits. Short of something close to medical nanotechnology to re-engineer the flaws that are causing the problem to begin with at a low level, there is no real solution to the problem. Of course, if we could do that, we could also do a hell of a lot of other very cool stuff as well.

"And like has been said, Rush did not open up to us on his own, he did it when forced."

Most addicts do not "come clean" on their own. Rush is human. And actually, Rush seeked help 2 times before this...but because he's such a public figure he was not able to come (or wouldn't let himself) come clean with everyone else. This is awesome because now that its in the open, his odds of recovery are 100x's better.

I appreciate the point of view but the 12 Stepper mentality, and from your post you may have an idea what I am talking about, is part of the advanced victimology Rush claims to be abhoring.

If Rush is truly tired of taking the pills, I think its great he has the money to escape for a month, but other folks manage their addictions differently because they lack those options. I suspect however, Rush's motivation was to posture for a courtroom down the line, though I am sure he really wants to quit 'this time.'

I don't agree. I think there is a MASSIVE difference between taking meds for pain and taking meds to get high.

One is done in order to escape reality. The other is done to be able to get -back- to a semblance of reality. One is done to increase pleasure, the other to remove pain.

The difference is as obvious as building a wall to keep people in and building a wall to keep people out.

There is a clear difference here. I'm for the legalization of marijuana, but to try and use this as a justification for it is ridiculous. There is a MASSIVE difference between recreational addiction and getting hooked on a highly addictive pain medication prescribed by a doctor.

The pro-drug lobby will hurt itself tremendously if they push this point, because I think this will be obvious to everyone.
