1962 Sunday Missal Mass Readings/Propers for the Forth Sunday After Easter

Colors:  White

INTROIT
Psalms 97: 1,2

Sing ye to the Lord a new canticle, alleluia, for the Lord hath done wonderful things, alleluia; He hath revealed His justice in the sight of the Gentiles, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. -- (Ps. 97. 1). His right hand and His holy arm hath gotten Him the victory. V.: Glory be to the Father . . . -- Sing ye to the Lord a new canticle, alleluia . . .

COLLECT - O God, who makest the faithful to be of one mind and will: grant to Thy people to love that which Thou dost command and to desire that which Thou dost promise, that amid the changes of the world, our hears may there be fixed where true joys are to be found. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth and reigneth . . .

EPISTLE
James 1: 17-21
Dearly beloved, Every best gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no change nor shadow of alteration. For of His own will hath He begotten us by the word of truth, that we might be some beginning of His creature. You know, my dearest brethren. And let every man be swift to hear but slow to speak and slow to anger. For the anger of man worketh not the justice of God. Wherefore, casting away all uncleanness and abundance of naughtiness, with meekness receive the ingrafterd word, which is able to save your souls.

GRADUAL
Psalms 117: 16
Alleluia, alleluia. V.: The right hand of the Lord hath wrought strength, the right hand of the Lord hath exalted me. Alleluia. V.: (Rom. 6. 9). Christ, rising from the dead, dieth now no more: death shall no more have dominion over Him. Alleluia.

GOSPEL
John 16: 5-14

At that time Jesus said to His disciples: I go to Him that sent Me: and none of you asketh Me: Whither goest Thou? But because I have spoken these things to you, sorrow hath filled your heart. But I tell you the truth: it is expedient to you that I go: for if I go not, the Paraclete will not come to you: but if I go, I will send Him to you. And when He is come, He will convince the world of sin, and of justice and of judgment. Of sin, because they believed not in Me: and of justice, because I go to the Father, and you shall see Me no longer: and of judgment, because the prince of this world is already judged. I have yet many things to say to you; but you cannot bear them now. But when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will teach you all truth. For He shall not speak of Himself: but what things soever He shall hear He shall speak, and the things that are to come, He shall show you. He shall glorify Me: because He shall receive of Mine and shall show it to you.

OFFERTORY
Psalms 65: 1, 2, 16

Shout with joy to God, all the earth, sing ye a psalm to His Name: come and hear, and I will tell you, all ye that fear God, what great things the Lord hath done for my soul, alleluia.

SECRET -O God, who by the holy intercourse of this Sacrifice dost make us partakers of the One Supreme Godhead: grant, we beseech Thee, that as we know Thy truth, so we may follow it by worthy lives. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth and reigneth . . .

PREFACE (Preface for Easter) - It it truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, at all times to praise Thee, O Lord, but more gloriously especially this day when Christ our Pasch was sacrificed. For He is the Lamb Who hath taken away the sins of the world: Who by dying hath destroyed our death: and by rising again hath restored us to life. And therefore with Angels and Archangels, with Thrones and Dominations, and with all the hosts of the heavenly army, we sing the hymn of Thy glory, evermore saying:

COMMUNION
John 16: 8
When the Paraclete, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will convince the world of sin, and of justice and of judgment, alleluia, alleluia.

POST COMMUNION - Be present with us, O Lord our God, that by means of these things which we have received in faith, we may be cleansed from our sins and also delivered from all dangers. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth and reigneth . . .

Is this a "pre vatican II" ping list? If so, please remove me and seek help...

It's a Latin Mass ping list. Those who are on it are traditional Catholics, or may attend an indult etc. Some like to have the propers translated before the Mass on Sunday. It has nothing to do with any particular council, unless you consider the fact that much of it was established after the Council of Trent around 500 years ago.

After reading your posting history and seeing that you refer to your Church as a "sect", it explains why you would react as you did. I've realized that not only do you know little or nothing about the traditional Mass, you know very little about your faith in general.

My apologies for the mistake.

You think he "needs [mental] help" because he has a preference to the liturgy prior to Vatican II? How intolerant of you!

Thanks for posting. Funny I never remember hearing that particular part of St John's gospel, in those particular words in all the years I went to NO masses. Does anyone know if they were eliminated?

Perhaps Pyro and I misunderstood you. What type of help should I seek then?

I have my phonebook out eagerly awaiting your answer - I just need to know who to call.

I think it's the cooties. Hanging around traditional Catholics, or those who attend the Latin Mass, you catch cooties. :-)

Well, I'm not a Catholic, but I appreciate being on this ping list. I haven't found satisfaction in any of the religions I've been associated with, but I'm starting to look more and more at the Catholic Church.
