Interesting discussion here. I tend to agree with your point of view. Most Catholics have had enough of this priest scandal and of the boys from the gay seminaries, and how they protect one another.

As you said, we must stand firm in the faith, and never, never tolerate evil, whether it is coming from a Bishop, a priest, or a seminarian.

"Can you support that allegation with solid numbers? From all I've read, he's suffered significant financial losses with each case he has trialed."

I just assumed that, as an attorney, he is making a lot of money, because I live in the area, and read about his many cases in the local papers, and hear him on the radio. He gets a lot of free press.

I never heard that he's suffered financial losses, and not to be smart, I am wondering if you can provide solid numbers that he has lost money, or at least a link to an article about that.

btw, I'm not exactly Bishop Hubbard, because of a couple of relatively minor things, but my opinion of him doesn't make him guilty or innocent, one way or another of the major accusations.

This goes to the very core of the Holy See.

Until and unless we are true to ourselves and point our finger at the true enemy of the Church, the faithful will continue to abandon it.

I gave an oral oath years ago to defend to the death our Church and its prelate and will continue to do so until my last breath. But, as long as the Church continues to stick her head in the sand and, not only ignore its enemy, but in many instances aligning herself with it, the flock will conitinue unbated to abandon the Church.

To align with the enemy and pretend that the faithful are a bunch of ignoramuses, is of the highest treason.

I hope and pray that Pope Benedict, whom I admire immensely, will see the light and stray away from the enemies' lies and deceits.

The enemy continues to laugh at us, as we continue to willingly ignore it.

I meant to say: "btw, I'm not exactly PRO-Bishop Hubbard,.." (I'm getting tired.)

Also, I have heard that Aretakis won a lot of cases at the beginning (which must have made him a lot of money), but more recently has been losing cases. I wonder why that is.

Perhaps someone else has already posted this link, but back in December, Matt Abbott had already posted this resonse from the Archdiocese of Newark and the diocese of Albany regarding Fr. Hoatson.

This does not sound like a very credible man.

P;ease read the link Dionysiusdecordealcis provided in his post #185. It provides documentation from the diocese of Newark that shows Hoatson as a less than credible person. It is an enjoyable read and presents a very clear picture of a troubled and/or malicious priest in a charitable and most interesting manner.

I was on guard early in the original article when Hoatson was quoted as stating that he found nothing wrong with same sex consensual relations. When priests say that I always interpret it to mean:"I am gay,I am a member of the gay culture and I don't care what the Church teaches because it's all about me anyway". The sad thing is that characters like that can destroy so much that is good and beautiful and true in this world and make it so much less than God intended when He established His Church to bring us all back to Him.

Suzie, forgive me, but you don't have a clear understanding of the overwhelming appitite of child sex abusers. One pervert can easily be responsible for molesting hundreds of kids - as many as they can get away with - they will not stop themselves.

Madam Law was abetting this by moving them from church to church and hiding their crimes which amounted to abetting their crimes. He is either the stupidest man in the history of the church or he is a knowing and willing participant in helping along the molestation. He should be in jail as the leader - like a madam in a whore house - arranging the encounters. For years Law did this to children. I am shocked they took him to Rome.

Cardinal Law wasn't in Boston for most of the time that the abuse was happening. It mostly happened under his predecessors, Cushing and Medeiros. Yes, he admitted he was too Pastoral to his priests, when they returned from being treated by the psychiatrists who pronounced them ready to be put back into service, but he didn't break any laws. Believe me, if he had, the Attorney General would have been all over him like white on rice! He WANTED to put Law in jail, but there was nothing with which he could charge him. Law didn't obstruct justice, because the state hadn't charged these priests at the time. In the cases of Geoghan and Shanley, they were actually protected by their Democrat cronies for quite a while. The Boston Globe used to write glowing stories about Shanley and his work with 'street kids', een as they knew that he was one of the founders of NAMBLA in Boston!

I do have an understanding of serial child molesters. I know that they cannot be rehabilitated. Everyone knows that NOW, but back in the 80's and early 90's, the psychiatrists were still proclaiming them 'cured' and sending them back to their positions. These were the professionals on whom Law and other Bishops relied for guidance.

The biggest mistake the Bishops made was allowing it to happen with the same priest more than once. They sent some of these priests back several times for 'treatment'. In my opinion, if it happened a second time, the priest should have been defrocked and locked up for a LONG time!!

Isn't Mary Jo White one of the judges that kept being over-ridden for ruling in favor of Clinton?

Dear Nihil Obstat,

It is unlikely that Ms. White was the only person in her firm who was billing on this case.
