For over twenty years, "Patriot Pastor" Garrett Lear has strode the halls of New Hampshire's legislature...serving as a voice for his faith and his Revolutionary War ancestors. Today he talks with us about Real ID, the liberty deficit among Christians and his colorful outfit. Pastor Lear's church is in Wakefield, New Hampshire.

What do *you* think? Is Real ID the Mark of the Beast? A precursor to it? A bad thing? A good thing?

I agree nmh. Too many churches preach the gospel according to the New York Times.

Clearly anyone who thinks the mark spoken of in Rev. 13:16,17 is a computer chip is preaching the gospel according to the New York Times.

Or -— according to other people they trust that they think knows what he’s talking about - like the false teacher, John Hagee:

Google Results 1 - 10 of about 1,740 for hagee says jesus isn’t messiah

I wonder if the same people who take literally the “mark” also take literally the “seal” of God. I mean it would be consistent, at least:

Revelation 7:3: “Do not harm the land or the sea or the trees until we put a seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God.”

To be honest with you ... it's not something that keeps me up at night. As I mentioned before Revelation is full of symbolism. I'd rather not speculate when it could be symbolic of something other than a numeric tattoo of some sort.

As mentioned, I prefer to NOT speculate on the symbolic reference of “the mark”. What's more important,is people believing what God clearly states in the Bible. It's there for you too to read and accept.

True Christians can disagree on a pre-trib rapture, can they not?

I mean since the pre-trib belief did not come into existence in the Church until the 1800s, then for over 1,800 years, Christians did not see in Scripture a pre-trib rapture, and there are many respected theologians today who do not agree with it either.

Though I don’t personally agree, at least you’re consistent.

Oh, I do too. I just try to read it while avoiding the speculative spin that seems so common among folks today, e.g., computer chips and Palestinian boogeymen.

I’ve been trying to get one of these Marks for years.

The rest which remains, which is symbolic of the 7th day sabbath, is the mellinial rest of the 7th 1000 year period from Adam. We`re currently entering that 7th day rest. One day with Hashem is as 1000 years on earth. That is why Paul said back 2000 years ago that the rest still remained since they hadn`t reached the 7000 year point yet.

Blessings in your search for TRUTH.

I hope your skepticism doesn’t cost you your eternal life, topcat, and that you’ll recognize the anti-Christ and his minions when they show up.

I lean more toward the pre-wrath rapture of the church myself, but I can always hope it will be pre-trib (LOL). Whatever, I just hope I’m ready for what happens.

How can you say that it isn’t that? Computer chips hold an enormous amount of information and I can’t imagine what else it could be right now. Maybe something different will come up in the future, but right now, I’m goin’ with the chip.

I’m concerned with my FReeper friends who don’t take the Bible literally and won’t be prepared when the time comes. I believe God has sealed his true believers and this will also be known in the time of the end.

Yes, I would take it literally. Somethings are specifically called out to be imagery, like the woman of Revelation 12. John certain saw a woman, but she represented Israel, for she gave birth to the Messiah and Satan tried to kill that Man Child through Herod (to us dispensationalists, anyways).

Without being arbitrary, came you explain the biblical method one uses to decide which prophecies are images and which ones are not? If you can assert that the woman of Rev. 12 is not a literal female, but, rather, she represents Israel, why can’t one assert that the mark of Rev. 13 is not a literal physical mark, but represents spiritual/supernatural control? Or that the "thousands years" of Rev. 20 is not a literal chronological sequence consisting of exactly 1000 365-day periods of time, but simply represents symbolically the period of time between the binding of Satan (vv. 1-3) and the final vindication of God’s people (vv. 7-10)? Is the "the keys of Hades and of Death" a literal key? Is the key that is used to bind Satan a literal key?

IOW, in a book like Revelation which consists of an overwhelming number of symbols and images, how do you pick out the handful of things that must be taken "literally" without being arbitrary?

I saw most of it and have saved it in my favorites for future viewing. These things are happening and I believe they are a precursor to the actual mark. If we get our children and grandchildren used to this type of technology, they won’t be able to tell the difference unless we show them.
