I think that’s why they hate Catholics, they are afraid of our sheer numbers.

I think they envision saving the souls of Catholics single-handedly.

With a loving 2x4.

This is not a forum to discuss religion

If the Religion Forum of FR is not a forum to discuss religion, what is it?

Great site in the link. Can it generally be considered Authoritative, or is it strictly a lay effort. Wish I had access to the info on the scapulars the other day.

There were people who tried to prevent the popularization of ancient texts with modern cheap printing.
They lost the battle and here we are reading pixels on a screen.
Death to the Luddites and their running dog lackeys~!

Were you there during Bloody Mary’s purge, it is obvious, where you would have stood. And it wouldn’t be with those persecuted for their Bibles, nor with those burned at the stake, nor with those having to flee to Switzerland.

I hope you don’t call yourself a Protestant.

**Not only for truly hateful things said about Catholics by Mormon General Authorities, but for just how many ex-Mormons turn to atheism in order to escape their false controlling cult.**

As Madaline Murray O’Hair said on the Larry King show several years ago,..”The best atheists are former Mormons and Catholics.”

I saw that show and always remembered it.

What if they can never find their way back to news?

Maybe they'll get swallowed by the Hollow Earth.

I listened to the audio link. McArthur merely stated the historical facts - of which, most Protestants nowadays have forgotten.

I find it interesting that there are so many self-professing Christians on this thread demonstrating an intense hostility to the idea that relevant Church history should be examined. If learning is honorable, then shouldn't debating different interpretations of Church history be commendable?

I thank you for saying so. I believe that we are very blessed. I am very thankful that God has blessed us with the discernment to appreciate it.

I will admit that I am not going to listen to ________________ (fill in the blank protestant minister) but I will address one "argument" he may have made (based upon some of the comments here).

The Catholic Church is VERY MUCH pro Bible. Let's face it, we wouldn't have the new testament if it weren't for the Pope, Bishops, and Monks who - for centuries - copied it over and over.

The Catholic Church is NOT supportive of lousy translations of the Bible. This is why certain translations were burned. Read a little about the Tyndale version and figure that one out for yourself.

I will agree that in the past (and most likely in the future) there have been Catholic leaders, the Queen of England for one, that have done some terrible things in the name of religion. But you are ignorant if you think that the subsequent Queen of England, who was protestant, didn't also do her share of killing in the name of her religion.

I am not impressed with the argument that because there were and are bad people in the Catholic Church the Church is bad. Remember, of the tweleve Apostles one betrayed, one denied, and only one remained. That doesn't mean that they were not Apostles or that somehow Christ made a mistake.

I listened to the mp3.

I don’t know why you don’t want to listen to it, a little history never hurt anyone.

Shouldn’t you listen to such things so you can know how to make a better argument against them?

As it is, your statement against it goes a bit wide.

But that is your prerogative.

Yes, it is his prerogative.

And I also support dw’s contention that the Catholic Church is very Scriptural. Having been a Catholic for 60 years (baptized into the Church at age 21) I have always found it to be Scriptural and based on Scripture, as are the writings of our scholars, saints and Early Church Fathers.

As far as I am concerned, there isn’t enough time to read everything, so when I select what I can fit into my time, it isn’t hard for me to decide what it is that most benefits me to read, and that is what my own profession of faith offers me.
