French Jewish Group Opposes Pius XII Sainthood
Friday, October 17, 2008 4:30 PM
PARIS -- France's main Jewish organization warned Friday that efforts to make wartime Pope Pius XII a saint would deal "a severe blow" to relations between Catholics and Jews.
The warning from an umbrella organization of French Jewish groups comes as the Vatican mounts a campaign to refute accusations Pius did not do enough to try to stop the extermination of 6 million Jews during World War II.
"Pope Pius XII, worried about burning his bridges with Germany, never made a clear statement denouncing the singular monstrosity of the extermination of millions of Jews. Moreover, he did not do so after the war either, which is profoundly shocking," the organization, Conseil Representatif des Institutions juives de France, said in a statement.
"If carried out, the plan to beatify Pius XII, who was pope between 1939 and 1958, would deal a severe blow to relations between the Catholic Church and the Jewish world," the statement said.

Youre claiming the Catholic Church is responsible for six million deaths?
Or is it just drive-by slander?
Then there’s the recent story of the 102 year old nun who is going to vote for Obama. How nuts is that????
There were many protestants who saved Jews. They just didn’t tell about it, and maybe didn’t LIVE to tell about it. Corrie tenBoom and her family suffered and most died because they courageously hid Dutch Jews in their home.

“There were many protestants who saved Jews.”
No, actually there were only a few - mostly in Holland, Denmark and Norway, some Frenchmen and some Swedes working in Eastern Europe.
“They just didnt tell about it, and maybe didnt LIVE to tell about it.”
No, actually we know all about what those Protestants did because plenty has been published about it. Corrie ten Boom, Raoul Wallenberg, Emilie Guth and Ermine Orsi, etc. Catholics who hid Jews, however, have often gone unnoticed. I mean this quite literally. Some were unknown to history until accidental discoveries.
Ever hear of Giovanni Palatucci? How about Luiz Martins de Souza Dantas? Sister Sara Salkahazi (martyred for helping Jews)? Mother Maria Elisabetta Hesselblad? Fr. Placido Cortese (tortured, mutilated and buried alive for helping Jews)? The evidence is endless: http://www.zenit.org/article-618?l=english
The Nazis knew Catholics were helping Jews: http://www.raoulwallenberg.net/?en/press/eichmann-s-diary-reveals.4348.htm
And they made plans to deal with it: http://www.zenit.org/article-2172?l=english
“Corrie tenBoom and her family suffered and most died because they courageously hid Dutch Jews in their home.”
And so did THOUSANDS of Catholics who his Jews.
And Pius XII still saved 860,000 Jews - according to Jewish historians like Pinchas Lapide.
Nuts is the right word. She’s senile. You probably would be too at age 106 or whatever it is.
This type of slander is what happens when you put the power of making someone a saint in the hands of man. Rather in the hands of God where it belongs. Do you all know there were saints prior to the RCC? Read your OT.
I’m curious too, Reggie. What was the point of your comparison?
I’d say almost a million people saved is fairly significant.
Heck I might do it myself. If, when, Uncle Sam comes after me I'll just say "Obama says I don't have to pay taxes".
If I knew where you lived I'd send the Political Correctness Police after you. :)
You're committing yourself to the comparison. Great!
Here's a little undeserved good advice though: you are the only one who thinks it is a stupid question.
Id say almost a million people saved is fairly significant.
It certainly is though that number is subject to "discussion". Sadly, history shows many more could have been saved by individual Protestants and Catholics, the Protestant and Catholic Churches, and by the various nations.
I don't believe there are any purely clean hands in the entire episode.
Aw, thanks for the ping guy!
The problem with the 860,000 Jews saved is that their survival gets in the way of the anti-Catholic bigots' talking points.
It would be better, from that point of view, if those Jews had not survived, to preserve the purity of the anti-Catholic fetish.
I don't believe there are any purely clean hands in the entire episode.
Nice strawman, tiger!
Who claimed "purely clean hands?"
False dichotomies are so much fun!
Don't you love how they maintain a bigot ping list so they can call all the other bigots to share in their anti-Catholic fetish. Bet they even soil their undergarments.
It’s your false dichotomy, your tactic.
I wonder how many of the people represented by the “main Jewish organization” of France actually believe or practice any part of the Jewish religion.
