Looking for Scripture ... as to God choosing the authorities in place
self | October 26,2008 | vanity

Posted on 10/26/2008 3:41:25 PM PDT by Countyline

I am under the impression from previous readings of the Bible ... that there is a verse that states that whoever is in a place of authority was choosen by God to be in that office. In looking over the scriptures I have not found it. Romans 13:1-4, Hebrews 13;17. 1TIMOTHY 2:2, do not seem right.

Daniel 2:19-21 (NIV)

19 During the night the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a vision. Then Daniel praised the God of heaven 20 and said:

"Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his. 21 He changes times and seasons; he sets up kings and deposes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning.

John 19:10-11 (NIV)

10 "Do you refuse to speak to me?" Pilate said. "Don't you realize I have power either to free you or to crucify you?"

11 Jesus answered, "You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above."

Absolutely agree with you on
Sarah Palin. A bright hope for the future if Christ does not come first.

and that Jesus subjected Himself to that authority even unto an illegal death sentence.

Ok, why did his disciples not subject themselves to "authority" when they were told not to preach?

Well, Jesus didn’t have anything directly to do with politics at that time He was here (the first time). He is in the office of King, Priest and Prophet. When Jesus comes again, he’ll have everything to do with “politics” as it pertains to the ruling of the world and as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He’ll definitely be heavily involved in that as He sets up the Kingdom of God on this earth. And yes, He’ll be Commander in Chief, too... :-0

The church’s duty (i.e., all the individual Christians) is to spread the Gospel message of salvation to everyone in the world. We only live here as a temporary home, waiting for our permanent home to be with Jesus Christ, so we’re not to be too attached to it here.

The “church” (composed of the individuals members of the body of Christ) is not going to “bring in the Kingdom of God” on this earth. Only Jesus Christ, Himself is going to do that. We only obey God, individually, as we see what He would have us do, in whatever areas in life that God has placed us.

God allowed Israel (as a “nation”) to fall and disappear, and now it has come back again (as God said it would). God may have the U.S. fall as a nation and also disappear. You or I don’t really know about that.

It’s not in our hands to be “responsible” for that — but only to be responsible to God for our individual actions, as the Bible outlines to us. In terms of “politics” — I would think that Romans 13 comes close to a good guideline.

Vote for candidates that promote God’s righteousness on earth (if you can find any) and do *not* vote for those who do *not* promote God’s righteousness on this earth. I would say that should be a Christian’s duty.

Unfortunately, it might be hard to find that candidate... LOL...

I was just at church and our pastor recommended the 2nd Chapter of Daniel and that was the verse he was refering too.

I am not depressed about the election. I leave it in God’s hands. Ultimately he will give us the leader. Remember the Israelites were out in the wilderness for 40 years. If the Republicans have to go in exile for a short time so be it. Hannity is always talking about conservatism in exile.

Just think would we have had a Reagan if it wasn’t for Carter? Would the Republicans have that great victory in 1994 if there hadn’t been a Clinton.

I am voting for McCain but if he doesn’t win so be it. This too shall pass. If Obama wins, I know this is just a setback that is a setup for our comeback.

This is what got me worried in the first place ... besides all the hoopla from the press of course.

We deserve to have the liberals elect a Marxist. We are too silent. We let Rush defuse our anger, and we grumble to each other. Not effective.

I’m praying for mercy and that God does not give us what we deserve.

Jesus is the head over EVERY power and authority

Colossian 2:

9For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority.

We are to submit to rulers for the Lords sake:

1 Peter 2

13Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, 14or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. 15For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men. 16Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God. 17Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.

Great Scriptures. We are blessed that our God wanted us to know Him. We have Israel to thank for most, if not all, of the Scriptures.

Daniel is one of the great men of the Bible. He did not falter or turn from God.

Thank you, for this Scripture.

They did subject themselves to that authority as well as God’s authority. They obeyed God and were delighted they were worthy to suffer for Christ.

You are creating a dilemma that does not exist.

I think we need to rise up but not in anger. We need to be loud and insistent but not angry. Our message should be reasoned and calm. And persistent.

Because it was against the express commandment to “go and tell your brethren.”

I know you didn’t address others but in answer to your question, it was God’s will in both circumstances. Jesus was to die as a propitiation for His people at the hands of the Roman’s and for the apostles and disciples to preach His Word even unto their deaths. We are never to go against God’s known will to fulfill man’s will or laws.

That's just flat out not correct. All those who did nothing would be held accountable and would be responsible.

Read Judges 19+20+21:5 A great evil had been committed and all the tribes except one went to destroy the evil doers. The one tribe that DID NOTHING, had the attitude of "Not my problem man" was destroyed also.

No, they flat out disobeyed. How on earth can that be twisted to say they were subjecting themselves. It can't.

The election is so close now and I am looking for hope that God will choose the winner.

Well hey, that saves everyone from having to go vote.

Indeed, let us pray for mercy and for God to choose for the man and woman that believe in HIM.

OK, that's one man and one woman, right? Not gonna sway any polls with those numbers but if it makes you happy...

The Bible contains explicit instructions concerning the qualifications for civil officers, and to these the Christian ought to look as he determines who he will support with his time, money, and vote.
There are two primary texts that set forth the standards for choosing civil magistrates: Exodus 18:21 and Deuteronomy 1:13.

If you want a more detailed explanation please reply with the request.

PETER WAS TOLD TO SPEAK NO MORE AND WAS RELEASED AFTER HAVING BEEN TEACHING (oops sorry)in the Temple. went back to the Temple the next day and continued to teach the Gospel. He did not obey the commands of the Priests.

Last week we had a couple of missionaries on leave from China (ONGBE people) and speak to our SS class. There are thousands of people groups that have not had anyone carry the message of Christ to them. Many speak their own language and ... it is not written down anywhere. Big obstacle. It was their comment that Jesus can’t come yet because of these people groups unreached with His Word.
