Remembering Columbine victim Rachel Scott
Today ^ | April 20, 2009 | anon

Rachel Scott, 17, was the first victim of 1999’s Columbine High School massacre. Her parents, Beth Nimmo and Darrell Scott, wrote the book “Rachel’s Tears” in memory of their daughter, who they believe was targeted by shooters Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold because of her religious values. An excerpt. We are thankful that you are reading this book, but we hope you understand that it is a book we never wanted to write. ... this unimaginable event has struck a nerve with people around the world as many have struggled to come to grips with America’s worst school shooting. A writer for the magazine Christianity Today said, “This event is becoming a defining moment for this generation of teens.” In the past year, we have been repeatedly interviewed by the national media, we have met world leaders and renowned entertainers, and we have spoken to thousands upon thousands of people at schools, churches, and town hall meetings. We do all this because we believe that our daughter Rachel Scott has a powerful message that survives her tragic death and needs to be heard by everyone. Sorrow and serenity In everything we do, our deep sense of calling is mingled with a profound sense of sadness. The speeches we have given and the words that appear on these pages have been mixed with innumerable tears. ... we now have a powerful conviction that God had a purpose in the way that Rachel’s life unfolded. As you will see, Rachel had a growing sense that she did not have long to live. We picked up only inklings of this while she was alive, but it all became crystal clear to us in the weeks and months after her death as we read the many journals she had written.

due to the confusion of what was going on it was easily mistakenly attributed to Cassie...the wounded boy was bleeding out and was in and out of consciousness for some time before being pulled out of a shot out window by SWAT shortly after Dylan shot Eric (the other shooter) and then himself

Check all those sources again. Scott was killed outside. Cassie Bernall (sp) was the student in question (the so called martyr for her Faith).

No, these are two separate events. Rachel Scott was shot outside, several times, and DID speak after, I believe, the first shot. This is easily checked. The witness was (if I have the name right) Richard Castaldo.

I would like to add that I am QUITE thankful that Cassie’s “legend”, if you will, does exist..its has led faceless thousands to Christ...There is absolutely no doubt that she was a strong Believer.

correct..I have stated that Rachel was killed alongside of Castaldo who was wounded multiple times on a hill near the entrance of the school as Harris and Klebold were coming up from the parking lot

Twink, read my post carefully. I'm talking about Rachel, not Cassie. As far as Cassie being a "so-called martyr," your bias is glowing like a neon light.

Now, as far as Cassie goes, I watched a fellow student being interviewed hours after the shooting. She was an "ear" witness to Cassie's statement, the first person I heard to tell the story. She was very clear in what she said. I trust her -- or any commonsense witness mere hours after something takes place -- over the twisted media and people with an agenda.

I’m gonna apologize to you right off. I don’t mean any offense. Just trying to correct falsehoods.

As far as my “bias glowing like a neon light” you can really shove it or bite me or whatever. Nice passive-aggressive crap.

I have no bias as I have no subjectivity or agenda.

Harris and Klebold didn’t kill Scott or Bernall because they were Christians. They didn’t kill Sholes (sp), the black football player because he was black or because he was an athlete. The media tried to spin that too.

The Cassie Bernall story, and myth, has been proven false. Another student negated that other student’s “claim.” You can choose to believe whatever the hell you want but the facts don’t support it. Just like the facts don’t support that these two murderers were bullied in high school.

The agenda of the gun grabbers is to promote this massacre as a reason to limit our 2nd A rights. The agenda of some is to say that these two students were bullied and all that bullying caused them to murder 13 people. The agenda of others is to pretend that they were anti Christian and murdered one or two students because of those students faith. The agenda of others is to use them as an excuse to bash the cops. Then, as we saw during the first hours as this was happening, was to make it a racist act.

Spin it anyway you want but I ain’t buying it, no matter who’s agenda is getting top billing.

Do you really think Cassie’s parents weren’t spinning this? Even after it was proved false, they still went with her being killed because of her belief in God, her faith.

Harris and Klebold didn’t kill anyone for their faith or their race or their athletic prowess or for any other reason but they were freakin loons. They were hateful, evil people. If anything, they proved that the 2nd A is necessary. If one adult had a gun, could have taken them out, maybe 13 innocent people wouldn’t have died. If the teacher in the Library had a gun, or the teacher in the Cafe, hell if any of them had a weapon and weren’t sitting ducks, maybe so many innocents wouldn’t have died.

I believe in God just like you do. I also know my gun will protect me when push comes to shove.

We’re seriously raising people who don’t rely on themselves to protect themselves.

Again, it’s been proved that Bernall and Scott weren’t killed because they were Christians. To perpetuate this nonsense does nothing for those murdered or their survivors or our Conservative cause.

So during the live broadcast when that one student said Shules was killed because he was black and she heard “racist comments” and the murderers were racist, did you believe that too?

With your reasoning, per witness statements, Cassie was murdered because she was a Christian and that black football player was murdered because he was black, or because he was an athlete or because he was not only black but an athlete. Heaven forbid, an athlete. Athletes are horrible. All should be shot. They’re bullies.

The first interview on TV was from a student, girl, who claimed that Shules was murdered because he was black and Klebold and Harris were racists. Then the media tried to spin the “athlete” angle. The “Christian” angle was pushed but like the rest, proved false.

Anyone using this or any other massacre for their own agenda sucks imo. Same thing happened with the loon from VaTech.

I don’t fall for it. Sorry you do.

No such thing has been “proven,” if for no other reason than the impossibility of proving a negative.

shortly after Dylan shot Eric

Urban legend. Forensics indicates that Harris and Klebold killed themselves individually. One did not shoot the other before shooting himself. Suggest you read Dave Cullen's book.

****Harris and Klebold didn’t kill Scott or Bernall because they were Christians.****

I'm not going to say that Rachael Scott was specifically killed because she was a christian however according to the book her parents wrote (Rachael's Tears) she was in a Drama class of sometype with one of the killers and according to the book (Rachael Scott kept a diary I believe) they did mock her for her faith. It's fair to assume that when they shot her they knew who she was.

I have no doubt, from all I’ve read, that they knew who she was, what she believed. However, from everything I’ve read over the last 10 years, it really didn’t matter to them who they killed. If all of the bombs they planted, that didn’t go off, had gone off, many more would have been killed.

they did mock her for her faith.

I bet the liberals will make two or three PBS documentaries emphasizing that point. /sarcasm mode

Now if the two murderers had been thought to have mocked a homosexual...
