John Calvin was a theologian, pastor, biblical exegete, and tireless apologist for Reformed Christianity, and ranks among the most important thinkers in church history. His theological works, biblical commentaries, tracts, treatises, sermons, and letters helped establish the Reformation as a legitimate and thriving religious movement throughout Europe. No theologian has been as acclaimed or assailed as much as Calvin...
You should try it.
IIRC Arminius also had some strange views regarding the omnipresence of God, which would have had us stepping on God every time we take a step.
Looks like there has been a crash in turn 3 by the looks of the carnage at the CALVIN 500.
I don’t know to what comics you’re referring. I don’t read comics. I read Scripture. You should try it.
________
Well now, that’s...snooty. Doc, a terminal degree doesn’t mean you have the right to presume those who disagree with you are stupid. As you don’t KNOW me, I’ll chalk up your assumptions about my knowledge, study and reading of Scripture (and, might I add Church History) to that fact. I really do enjoy debate and discussion of such things with Brothers in Christ. Do I qualify Doc?
Thank you, Ray. Seahawkfan was wondering if Calvinists actually read the words of Arminius. Apparently we do.
"Snooty" to say I don't read comics. lol. Sorry. When my sons gave up Spiderman and Wolverine, so did I.
And you're mistaken. I haven't presumed anything about your stupidity.
Pardon my ignorance, but who is Jack Chick?
Using his name to slur another poster is also not allowed.
Thank you for that info. Pretty sick guy if you ask me.
Of course, anyone with a modicum of knowledge about theology knows that MacArthur is a Dispensationalist, not a Calvinist.
Of course, anyone with a modicum of knowledge about theology knows that MacArthur is a Dispensationalist, not a Calvinist.
______________
Anyone with a proper understanding of Dispensationalism would understand that it’s adherents have been both Calvinists AND Arminians in the past. Besides MacArthur, take for example Dallas Theological Seminary, which has MORE than it’s share of CALVINISTS insofar as soteriological matters. That does NOT preclude a Dispensational eschatology.
Are the snide comments inherent in the arrogant manner of Calvinists, or is that something you threw in as a personal touch?
While you are free to have your own opinion about the dispensationalist factory at DTS (and there are some guys over there who are solid in their fields, Dr. Hannah in Church history, for example) MacArthur isn’t a Calvinist, he’s never been a Calvinist, and I would be surprised if he ever became one. Of course, MacArthur did some valuable work a generation ago in the ‘carnal Christian’ debate, but it doesn’t change the fact that he’d rather bait Calvinists than be one.
I’ll throw in a link for you:

And yes, I don’t usually show much respect for pseudo-intellecualism
Thanks for posting. Interesting.
Doc, I notice that you’ve not contributed much after calling me stupid.
I wonder, did you have any answers for the Christological views that CALVINIST Millard Erickson and CALVINIST Bruce Ware actually SHARED with Jacobus Arminius?
Did you happen to note the I said I personally did not like the wording of the view that Arminius took (and shared with CALVINISTS Millard Erickson and Bruce Ware)?
Also, you’ve never answered my question — do you consider me YOUR Brother in Christ? Do I “qualify” as one of the “Elect?” Please, elaborate!
PAR:
You should dive into the questions I asked the Doc above too. You seem fixated on my mention of John MacArthur’s unorthodox Christology, but you completely avoid the fact that two prominent CALVINISTS SHARE the Christological concepts of the “generation” of the Son with Jacobus Arminius. Why? Is that an inconvenience to your brand of Calvinism?
And, all your insults aside, even if you do consider me a “pseudo-intellectual” who you don’t respect, do I qualify as YOUR Brother in Christ? Am I “Elect?” Or does God not elect those YOU consider spiritually, theologically or intellectually retarded?
Just curious. If you all are the “Elect,” then us “stupid pseudo-intellectuals” need to sit at your “beautiful feet” and learn...
Patriot Preacher
Sounds like he broke free from the shackles of a sick French lawyer named Jean Cauvin and returned to the Biblical truth of human, God-given free will.
Yes, that's true.
Vapid and pathetic anti-Catholic vitriol is a very serious matter. It represents the footprints of Satan.
More evidence that some see anti-Catholic bigotry as a game, with a score, to be won or lost.
I'd suggest you review the RM's rule about 'making it personal'. I would be subject to proper chastisement if I were to answer directly.
In general, however, I can safely say that I don't know who is elect and who isn't - only our sovereign God knows. And I haven't seen your fruits, so I wouldn't be in a position to guess.
Just because dispys have poorly developed theology doesn't mean that many of them are not Christians.
