Witness the "all" of me
Bible and The Comforter | Scribe

Posted on 10/17/2009 4:39:18 PM PDT by Jedediah

A manifold witness I have placed in you ,

All that is faithful and true ,

A oneness of The Father and I in one breath ,

Can you imagine this depth ,

For what once rested upon me ,

Was the one and the three in complete harmony ,

And so it is even now My fullness with you ,

For as you witness me all 3 come through ~ ~ ~

John 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

John 16:6-12 (King James Version)

6But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.

7Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

8And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

9Of sin, because they believe not on me;

10Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;

11Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

12I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

John 20:22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:

1 Corinthians 4:18-21 (New King James Version) 18 Now some are puffed up, as though I were not coming to you. 19 But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord wills, and I will know, not the word of those who are puffed up, but the power. 20 For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power. 21 What do you want? Shall I come to you with a rod, or in love and a spirit of gentleness?

Modern apostles plant churches today. We are still operating in the five fold ministries, regardless of what our fundamental bretheren think.

Border Collies are interesting dogs, even by dog standards. My first was a mixed breed GSD/BC...20 years after his death, I still think he was the best dog I’ve ever owned. The first purebred was such a high energy dog that we were worried when my wife gave birth - but the worries were unfounded. She raised our youngest daughter. She couldn’t use her teeth to herd her, so when our daughter got too adventurous, Leila would lie down on top of her and call for backup.

Jack has earned the nickname, “Jack the Slipper”. Runs at 100 mph outside, but curls up on people’s feet inside. I’m pretty well convinced that Border Collies don’t need sheep, they need their people! They herd sheep because it makes their people happy....

Actually, based on a couple of times around sheep, Leila had a tremendous amount of herding instinct - but her family was her obsession, as is Jack’s. They are wonderful dogs, as you well know!

People who pretend to be prophets and those who deal in UFO goofiness get scorned by those who are rational.

Have I ever seen a UFO other than a picture on the tv???

Yep

Have I ever seen a pope???

Nope...

Brandy was a pound puppy. The whole litter was dropped off in a cardboard box in the middle of the night, at about four weeks old. I never knew what breed she was. I figured she probably had some type of herding dog. I’ve seen many dogs that she looked a little bit like. This is the first time I’ve seen another dog who looked so much like her.

Well, Jack is a purebred short coat Border Collie. Border Collies come in lots of variations. The ones I’ve known were all very smart, had independent judgment, very energetic, very loyal and ADORED their people.

Our other two dogs are pound dogs - one is a purebred Australian Shepherd the Humane Society got from a puppy mill. More obedient than smart, loves everyone (most Border Collies I’ve known are a bit suspicious at first) and wishes he could be a 75 lb lapdog. Our third has been with us 4 years. We’re his third family. A very gentle, sweet dog, whose alter-ego is an outstanding watchdog!

We bought Jack from a breeder in Oregon and had him shipped to Arizona because we wanted a Border Collie from good working lines. However, the other 2 are living proof that a pound dog can also be a wonderful friend and companion!

You left out an important part:

Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.

Your version omits the ordination part.

Interesting question. Here is what I found in Barnes Commentary:

Must one be ordained. It is fit or proper that one should be ordained. The reason of this was, that Jesus had originally chosen the number twelve for this work, and as one of them had fallen, it was proper that the breach should be filled by some person equally qualified for the office, The reason why it was proper that he should be taken from the seventy disciples was, that they had been particularly distinguished by Jesus himself, and commanded to preach, and endowed with various powers, and had been witnesses of most of his public life, Luke 10:1-16. The word ordained, with us, has a fixed and definite meaning. It denotes to set apart to a sacred office with the proper form and solemnities, commonly by the imposition of hands. But this is not, of necessity, the meaning of this passage. The Greek word usually denoting ordination is not used here. The expression is, literally, must one be, or become--\~genesyai\~--a witness with us of his resurrection." The expression does not imply that he must be set apart in any particular manner, but simply that one should be designated, or appointed for this specific purpose, to be a witness of the resurrection of Christ.

So it looks to me like putting 'ordained' in is a loose translation - not entirely wrong, perhaps, but not fully justified by the Greek text. I used the ESV, which is in agreement with the usually very literal NASB, and Young's Literal Translation.

BTW - I don’t know Greek, so I have to rely on what I read on the subject.
