Right now, God’s children are dying horrifically and need all the help they can get. I see this as two groups of people trying to help, as best they can. It sounds like the Mormons had the supplies and the Muslims had the funds. Rather that fight among each other, they partnered to help their brothers and sisters.

God knows their hearts, but I say, get the help their as quickly as possible!!!!!

Amen.

As an outside observer, I can’t see why people are upset that two organizations they are not involved with, and apparently would not ever BE involved with, are together providing aid and assistance to people in crisis in Haiti.

Hate, pure hate. That's why.

I didn’t defend polygamy during the FLDS raids. I defended the LDS from attacks by people insinuating that FLDS was really LDS, and I objected to how the government was acting.

Objecting to government actions against a group is not the same as defending the group. I found the whole FLDS compound repugnant, but my personal dislike does not mean I think the government has the right to trample on people’s rights, or to tear hundreds of kids away from their mothers.

But I don’t mean to be arguing that again, just noting that my defense was NOT of “polygamists”.

Just as here I am not defending the religion, just saying that I see nothing wrong with two groups I don’t belong to working together to help people.

If I were LDS, I would be disturbed by the allegations of the LDS church working with muslims such as what you post here. But I’m not — and further, that wasn’t the topic of the thread, so it’s not the “associations” I was defending.

I’ve read up to #40-something on the replies, and that was enough. This has to be one of the more tasteless, disgusting displays of pettiness and arrogance that I’ve had the displeasure of coming across on this website.

Agree.

Ummm, I see, I guess. :{

You just so often crop up on these threads. I do too, but I have a vested interested in all things Mormon since it is my heritage and the religion of my family. These discussions are of great interest to me. So again I will state that you are one of the biggest non-mormon supporters of mormonism I have seen on this site. Obviously that is from my perspective and IMO.

I recommend any of the following orgs involved:

HCJB Global, Samaritan’s Purse Join Efforts in Haiti After Massive Quake

Sources: HCJB Global, Samaritan’s Purse (written by Ralph Kurtenbach and Harold Goerzen)

A quick response by HCJB Global Hands has put an emergency medical response team from Ecuador en route to the devastation on the Caribbean nation of Haiti after a 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck on Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 12.

In response to Samaritan Purse’s request for a medical help, International Healthcare Director Sheila Leech immediately began assembling a medical team including surgeons, family physicians, nurses, an anesthesiologist and a water engineer.

A registered nurse, Leech is heading the group as she has done in previous disasters around the world such as in 2005 when a medical team from Ecuador helped in quake relief efforts on Nias Island, Indonesia.

Samaritan’s Purse is centering its relief efforts at a 100-bed hospital in Port-au-Prince operated by a local partner, Baptist Haiti Mission. The hospital, 20 miles from the quake’s epicenter, only suffered minor damage and has electricity from back-up generators.

The hospital’s director of operations, Kyrk Baker, called the situation “overwhelming” with patients lining the floor. “There are big box vans coming in with people to see a doctor,” he told Samaritan’s Purse. “It’s just unbelievable the amount of people that are lined up trying to get basic medical care.”

Samaritan’s Purse has chartered a DC-3 cargo plane from Missionary Flights International (MFI) to transport supplies such as water, shelter materials, medical supplies and other emergency needs to Port-au-Prince. The first flight departed from Fort Pierce, Fla., Wednesday afternoon. A second flight on Thursday will carry additional supplies and staff members from Samaritan’s Purse and HCJB Global.

Family physician Dr. Steve Nelson said search and rescue efforts will be essential during the first few days. “We expect we will be receiving patients with severe traumatic injuries,” he explained. “A lot of the early response will be surgical, yet we hope to be able to manage some of the other kinds of problems that will be seen early because of the lack of water and infectious disease.”

Um, no, actually, it's classical liberalism that's 'live and let live.' Conservatism comes in many more flavors of nuance.

I’m not sure why FR is actually complaining about non-government-funded relief efforts now, except that it plays into the hatred some people have for muslims and mormons.

- - - - - - -
Mindreading and attributing motives.

I would complain about ANY group/church that chose to partner with Islamacists.

The fact that the LDS church (who has spent BILLIONS trying to get everyone to accept them as Christians) had decided to ally with the Muslims rather than one of the other organizations (like the Red Cross or Salvation Army), says a lot about how they really feel about Christians.

Why did they have to partner with the Muslims rather than other relief agencies?

The LDS are one of the richest businesses (tithes are paid to the CORPORATION OF THE PRESIDENT of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints) in the country.

There are other groups they could have partnered with, or they could have done it by themselves (as they have in the past).

And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

So you're saying that Mormons are 'helping' in Haiti in order to help themselves to eternal life. And you probably think that this is how everybody should see these verses. I'm going to cry, and then I'm going to pray for you.

May more armchair “Christians” emulate them.

Pay attention, Larry. Pay attention.

They have. They just don’t partner with the Muslims, or limit their help to “members only”. Links to the articles are here

Apologies, although I’ll still call out the nothing-better-to-do Mormon-bashers for hiding behind the Religion Forum from deserved criticism.

- - - - - - -
Larry, we are not hiding. The open LDS threads can be brutal and are in the Religion Forum because that is where discussion of Religion belongs per Free Republic.

If you have issues, I suggest you stay on the “devotional” or “caucus” threads.

As far as having “nothing-better-to-do”, most of us can multitask, however, to me there is NOTHING more important than sharing my love and relationship with Jesus Christ to those who are trapped in a religion of works rather than relying on the Grace of Christ.

Part of that is sharing my experiences both as a faithful Mormon and now as a Devoted Christian.

Help the Haitans, rather than criticize the way that others help the Haitians.

— - - - - - -
Who says we aren’t?

BTW, are you posting from Haiti?

And, IMO, the LDS wouldn’t be there if there weren’t members (who always get priority help) and if it wasn’t good PR.

The LDS church is a business corporation first.
