Christians from political left and right sign 'Civility Covenant'
CNN ^ | March 25, 2010 | Dan Gilgoff

Posted on 03/26/2010 4:27:43 PM PDT by Colofornian

A group of more than 100 prominent Christians ranging from evangelical minister Jim Wallis on the political left to...Chuck Colson on the right released a document Thursday calling for an end to the fight club tone of the national political discourse.

...the "Civility Covenant"...says...churches have too often "reflected the political divisions of our culture rather than the unity we have in the body of Christ."

SNIP

...the covenant...has 114 signatories from a broad swath of Christian traditions, including the president of the National Association of Evangelicals, the head of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference and the general superintendent of the Assemblies of God...

The list...includes...conservative Christian leaders like Harry Jackson -- who led the unsuccessful fight against gay marriage in Washington -- to Morna Murray, president of the progressive Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good, which is close to the Obama White House.

SNIP

Quoting the New Testament, the new covenant urges Christians to "put away from you all bitterness and wrath and anger and wrangling and slander, together with all malice, and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you."

"We owe a certain responsibility to each other as believers," said Colson, an influential evangelical Christian voice. "This doesn't mean I haven't challenged some people's theology. But the document says we're not going to challenge each other's motives or engage in ad hominem attacks."

SNIP

...Wallis organized a boycott of Beck's show but says the timing of the covenant's release is incidental.

Colson said the document "wouldn't apply to Glenn Beck because we're talking about the conversation in the family of believers ... Glenn Beck is a Mormon."

Many Christians don't consider Mormons...to be Christians, though Mormons consider themselves Christian...

the more I think about it....

I think this is Wallis’ underhanded way of trying to say that when it comes to the Bible and Christianity, Beck is unable to participate in the debate...

he is using alinsky rule #13

Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it...

Wallis is a liberation theologian or Christian communist. This is a heretical sect of Christianity.

II Corinthians 11:13-15

13For such boasters are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. 14And no wonder! Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 15So it is not strange if his ministers also disguise themselves as ministers of righteousness. Their end will match their deeds.

Beck seems to have a far greater understanding of the Christian bible and ildeals than Wallis.

In fact, Beck doesn’t even say not to listen to Wallis, only that we should be very aware of who he is and what he preaches.

See my post after yours. You have Wallis nailed down.

Well isn’t this special. The only group that can compete with the left for PC is the ‘new’ feel good, non judgemental Christian church and all of it’s so called leaders. Looks like they are intent on leading the flock into the pit of hell.

There is a time for everything under heaven, including a time not to shake hands with those doing what I know is evil. I tend to let people believe what they want. But when they push to kill the innocent or take what is not theirs so they can feel good about social justice, or tear down the foundation of liberty, I will no longer promise to be civil. I will fight what they stand for.

There is a time for nearly everything under heaven, including a time to say, “This will not stand.”

National Hispanic Christian Leaderhip Conf. Is that anything like the Southern Christian Leadership Conf.?

Was hoping I wouldn’t see the Assemblies of God there.

This is just more ungodly compromise that misleads politicians as to what real Christianity is.

Wallis, [like Al Gore & Jesse Jackson, IIRC?], dropped out of Divinity school. He's a "Reverend" because he feels like one.

There are precious few genuine prophets remaining in the Body of Christ. A prophetless church is a profitless church. . . . is a profligate church.

Don’t like/agree with Wallis but your political views are not what saves you, your theology (faith in Christ) is what saves you. Theoretically you can be a marxist and be a Christian, however you CANNOT be a Mormon and be a Christian. The two are mutually exclusive based upon theology.

And i used to be Mormon so I am VERY familiar with LDS theology.

I think the purpose of these silly petitions is to imply that those who have not signed his silly document are “not civil.”

It would have been a better story if it said, “Left and Right call cease fire and join forces to defeat public funding of Abortion”

How can a Christian be a Christian if they support abortion?

Well, from what I can tell, the Mormons know a communist when they see one—and they know what to do with him!

- - - - - - -
Did you know the Mormon LEADERSHIP openly praised and supported Hitler?

They also were practicing communists (United Order) and expect to practice it again.

Don’t buy the PR they put out.

“How can a Christian be a Christian if they support abortion?”

I do not care what mental acrobats they try to pull off, you are not a Christian, as such, if you advocate abortion, period.

Thou shalt not kill.

It’s quite simple.

America’s holocaust continues.

are you claiming that Beck does not have a relationship with Christ?

- - - - - - -
You cannot have a relationship with Christ and be Mormon, they teach against that. Bruce R. McConkie was particularly vocal about it.

Neither do they worship Jesus Christ, they only worship Heavenly Father.

AFA, Beck be aware that the “Christian principles” you may see are most likely flavored with Mormon heresy.

I was LDS for several years and I can document the above theology if you wish.
