Mormon missionaries need to take tests @ their missionary training center as part of their preparation.

I posted three of these earlier this year:

* Flashcards: Mission Prep Final [MormonISM missionary - Open]

* Flashcards: Mission Prep Midterm [MormonISM - Missionary Prep Quiz - OPEN]

* Flashcards: Final [MormonISM Missionary - Another Final Exam- Open]

Feel free to scan those excerpts.

Well, here is another excerpt re: how Mormon church leadership trains their young people to prepare for marriage and family:

1. Choose "a spouse who is near perfection" [nah...can't be perfectionism in this religion]

2. Marry in the temple [on June 9 -- last week -- the Salt Lake Tribune ran this article: Mormon temple weddings leave some family on outside, hurting inside...also one of the top post-drawing lds threads @ FR in 2010 was this one: Non-Mormon family not being allowed to attend son's wedding was wrenching (1,670 replies)]

3. It's implied that the top three leaders of the Mormon hierarchy DO take a stand if a woman wears more than one pair of earrings

4. Unless you get married, you can't enter the "celestial kingdom." And what does that mean? That means, per Mormon leaders, you can't live with Heavenly Father in his presence forever. Single, never-married people -- per Mormonism -- are shut out living with God forever...Including those who died young. [And here Mormons tout how "fair" baptism for the dead is!]

5. All spirit is matter. [They redefine "spirit" as matter because they realize Jesus taught God is "spirit" -- John 4:23-24...and their founding "prophet," Joseph Smith said their god was one of flesh & bones...but no blood]

6. "Those who marry in the covenant...shall be gods with angels to serve them..." [Ah...that's what we want in a president like Romney...a self-identified 'god'...I'm frankly sick of people telling us how "nice" Mormons are when underneath the temple Mormons -- about 20% of Mormons -- arrogantly pride themselves on becoming gods...which breaks the First Commandment of having other gods! Oh, and just as your skin color once disqualified you from priesthood and potential godhood, Mormons still have this prejudicial bias -- only singles are locked out of supposed godhood!]

7. And just as Mormons make "spirit" a matter of "matter," they also make the soul physical. Why then did the apostle Paul say, "May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ." (1 Thess. 5:23) Wouldn't that be redundant?

Oh, never mind the Bible. The Mormons just go off willy-nilly redefining it all per their leaders' whims.

"Proper approach toward marriage; choosing a spouse who is near perfection and then marrying in the temple."
"It's not easy to learn a new culture, doctrine and terminology — just ask new converts to the LDS Church — one of whom was disappointed to learn that the fireside she'd been eagerly looking forward was not a bonfire. Or the one who showed up in tears at the office of Marleen Williams convinced that no Mormon man would want to marry her because she couldn't operate a hot glue gun...."

Do you suppose that if Romney gains the White House, he will be elevated to the position of a General Authority of the mormon church? He has the mormon royalty family ties, after all.

Why Mormonism is contrary to Biblical Christianity

Someone very dear to me was recently excluded from his son’s temple wedding. He was very hurt. I do not understand why a “relgiion” is exclusive in this way.

Thanks for the post.

The 'religion' is exclusive because it is a mechanism to retain superiority. After all, those with a temple recommend are on the fast track to godhood. The rest are unworth scum.

I don’t care how much they try and dress up their cult, for the Mormoms it’s the Bible plus Joseph Smith. For true believers, it is Christ alone, crucified, buried, resurrected, glorified, taken up and soon returning plus NADA, ZILCH, ZERO.

Yup. Hurt indeed.

To Mormons, outsiders are all "Gentiles" -- even Jews!

They alone are Zion.

Even when they have open houses for their new temples, once that's done, they scrub them clean of Gentile bacteria, and won't let Gentiles in again.

Mormon exclusivity: Mormons believe they are the "only true and living church on the face of the earth." (Doctrines & Covenants 1:30)

I know the "niceness" of Mormons doesn't always convey that one-upsmanship underlying 'tude, but the smiley faces for some are tied to a proselytizing spirit; for others it's the realization that they are auditioning for their own godhood 24/7; and for some non-Temple Mormons that's just the way they were brought up to be.

You know what bothers a lot of Christians, including some of us FReeper Christians, is that when Mormons try to dress up their cult, they don't just don their own hand-made spiritual wardrobe.

Nope.

Just like how Southern Utah Mormons took the corpses of 120 women, children and men on 9/11/1857, and cut off all their clothes to steal them for their own wear, so, too, Lds essentially attempts to declare Christianity dead for 1500 - 1800 years & then tell us, "Hey, that spiritual wardrobe brand you're wearing looks good; let me have it..." -- thinking that we, too, can be left as naked corpses for co-yotes & other animals to have at us.

My reference re: Southern Utah is tied to the Mountain Meadows Massacre: “'There was no clothing left on man, woman or child, except that a torn stocking leg clung to the angle of one.” Haight, Higbee, and Dame would argue asa well over the distribution of goods. The bloody clothing and bedding that had been gathered by the women and others were taken to the cellar of the church tithing office in Cedar City..." (Sally Denton, p. 150 -- see below for book source details)

Per Denton, the Cedar City Mormons post-massacre “flaunted their windfall”: “...others passing through the territory remarked on the new prosperity among the settlers. A drover named Hugo Hickman had observed the 'poverty and rags' worn by the residents of Cedar City in early 1857. But now he 'was greatly surprised to see the people so well dressed, in States Jeans [jeans made in the United States instead of homespun in Zion], Silks and Satins...rich in clothing, cattle, wagons, julery [sick] and money.' Hickman wrote in his diary that a local friend told him 'all the property and clothing' he saw 'knocking around came from the Mountain Meddows.' [sic].” (Denton, p. 173)

I did get to see the inside of a new temple during the open house here, some years ago. It was beautiful, but we were reminded over and over that it was a special event, that we would never be able to go into a temple again after the grand opening.

Years ago I ended up staying the the children of some Mormon friends over a weekend due to they had to leave town on a family emergency. Several of their apparently worthy Mormon friends called on the phone over the weekend. More than one of them asked me, “who are YOU?” in a way that I came to realize meant I was not Mormon (enough) to be staying with their children for an emergency on a moment’s notice. I was quite resentful of that attitude, since I felt like I had been doing a good deed, being a good friend.

I also recall other conversations with these Mormon friends, who would disparage other Mormons, who seemingly were not good enough to associate with. I struggled with trying to understand that. It never matched up with my feelings and beliefs as to what religion/church relationships should be like.

Having relatives in the Mormon church -- both inside and outside of Utah -- I can tell you there is a social hierarchy...not totally formalized into a caste system...but in some locales, pretty close.

On the bottom rung are your Jack (inactive) Mormons

Then you have...
...your moderately involved Mormons who occasionally drink (fill in the blank...coffee...etc.)
...your Cafeteria Mormons -- either social Mormons or social-liberal Mormons...they've abandoned much of the core of what Mormon leaders of the past have said what Mormonism represents...
...Mormon adult males who didn't go on a two-year mission and have no plans of doing that. They may be "faithful" from all other Mormon angles, but no mission, well, were they really "faithful." Uh, socially, not really.

Then you have a "middle" category of faithful Mormons -- but they have "black sheep" qualities like...
...being older single adult Mormons with little-to-no prospects of marriage --
--or they are wives of husbands who aren't "celestial material" husbands...
I guess I would also lump your more surfacy Cafeteria converts into this category as well. These are those who picked what they liked best about Mormonism (family emphasis, for example)...but because they have no Mormon heritage and didn't learn all there was to learn about Mormonism to begin with, they like their buffet shallow "spirituality" just fine, thank you

The top class of Mormonism revolves around being temple-recommend Mormons...about 20% of Mormons...but even these are divvied up...If you're...
...a single adult who's not about to get married, you're lower on the scale than a married person...
...a temple Mormon with specific callings from the church, you are on a higher level than one without such a calling.
...a resident inside Utah, especially in Utah Co. -- or associated with HQ in SLC, you are of the more elite Mormon than a non-Utah resident.
...one who has Lds relatives going back to at least the pioneer years of Utah, then that makes you more "royal" heritage standard...and you thereby "rate" higher than those without such a heritage.
...a relative of more General Authority members, that, too becomes a social escalator.

I really think Mormons should just get a committee together and assign social points to all of the above -- along with other factors & criteria I left out -- and just have an online point system. That way, the lower-socially ranked Mormons can know what they need to do to "shoot" for a higher score!

Oh, and btw, theologically Mormons are prone to such a "point system" -- 'cause founder Joseph Smith invented three degrees of glory in heaven.

I guess being a cousin of Harold "the Binger" Lee really guarantees me important social status....Oh wait a minute I forgot. I'm an apostate. Now they just shun me.

Well said.

On mormons demanding to be called Christian and assigning a "subset" name to Christians, such as "orthodox" or "mainstream".

Why strain at gnats and swallow camels?

Christians are Christians. Mormons are mormons.

When they start designating all the different subsets of mormons like the FLDS as mormons, THEN let's worry about what subset name mormons should arbitrarily assign to Christians as if it were their right to do so. At least the mormon splinter groups originated with Joseph Smith.

When the miniscule number of mormons in the world take it upon themselves to assign a designation to the many millions in the body of Christ, it is IMO, overreaching by a wide margin.

What is the soul? the body and spirit
_______________________________________________

well lets start with this one...

does the soul = the body and spirit ???

What does the Bible say ???

May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole SPIRIT, SOUL and BODY be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 5:23

Kind words are like honey—sweet to the SOUL and healthy for the BODY. Proverbs 16:24

The life of every living creature and the SPIRIT in every human BODY are in his hands. Job 12:10

Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health in your BODY, just as your SOUL prospers. 1 John 1:2

What is taught in D&C 131? You cannot enter into the celestial kingdom without the covenant of marriage. All spirit is matter.
________________________________________________

Sing, O barren woman, you who never bore a child; burst into song, shout for joy, you who were never in labor; because more are the children of the desolate woman than of her who has a husband,” says the LORD. Isaiah 54:1

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

God is pleased with unmarried women

What mere mortal man dare tell God He is wrong ???

The spirit = matter thingy

God is Spirit John 4:24

Matter can be seen, a Spirit cannot

No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father’s side, has made him known. John 1:18

Again the Mormons are wrong and God is right...

I do not binge but I do sing. In fact if you're in Brooklyn tonight our daughter is opening at a jazz club.

Last year we were at Birdland where I did a duet with her.

I was also a member of "Praise Ye the Lord" the youth Mormon Tabernacle Choir in 1953-54

The Apache have a saying for this one

“A good looking boy is not always a good boy”

And in the Bible, God told Samuel

But the LORD said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The LORD doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7

So much for a “perfect husband”

and as for women themselves...

Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. 1 Peter 3:3

God prefers plain, fat, muscly armed women to beauty queens...the “perfect” need not apply..

A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. She arms her waist with strength, and makes her arms strong. Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
Proverbs 31:10, 17, 30
