O afflicted city, lashed by storms and not comforted, I will build you with stones of turquoise, your foundations with sapphires. I will make your battlements of rubies, your gates of sparkling jewels, and all your walls of precious stones. (Isaiah 54:11-12)

Heavenly Father, we pause in the busyness of our day to give a few moments to You, and to those for whom we pray.

Lord, we seek again the blessing and prosperity of our military. We ask, Father, that You would be pleased to grant them many good things.

Lord, we pray for those who are under the yoke of Islam. As we enjoy this season when we celebrate the coming of Christ, we pray that He would come into many hearts that have been trapped by the darkness of Islam.

Lord, we thank You that, in the midst of our sin and affliction, You have mercy on us. As You promised to build battered Jerusalem with sapphires and stones of turquoise, so You promise to build our battered souls with the righteousness of Jesus Christ. It was Your love, and not our goodness, that caused You to anoint Your Son to save Adam's race. In Him You lift us higher than we fell, give us more than we forfeited, and bring us home to a city greater than the garden we left. We worship and thank You, our God who rebuilds broken walls with precious stones, in the Name of Jesus our Savior, Amen.

In the coldest and darkest days of the American Revolution, General George Washington raised his prayers for the survival of his beleaguered Army and of the new Nation. The Lord answered those prayers, upheld his Army through a punishing nadir to everlasting glory and bestowed His manifold benefits upon the new Nation.

In like manner, let our prayers now rise for our heroes in the American military who seek to secure the benefits of Freedom on behalf of a people hungry for them. Father, look on our prayers for them with favor, guide their steps in righteousness and keep them in the shelter of Your healing wings. Bless and uphold them in the performance of their Mission. Through Jesus Christ, Your Son, Amen.
