Reasons Joseph Smith Is More Important Than Jesus [Mormon Merry Smithmas!]

"Come on! ye prosecutors! ye false swearers! All hell, boil over! Ye burning mountains, roll down your lava! for I will come out on top at last. I have more to boast of than ever any man had. I am the only man that has ever been able to keep a whole church together since the days of Adam. A large majority of the whole have stood by me. Neither Paul, John, Peter, nor Jesus ever did it. I boast that no man ever did such a work as I. The followers of Jesus ran away from Him; but the Latter-day Saints never ran away from me yet...When they can get rid of me, the devil will also go." (Joseph Smith, History of the Church, Vol. 6, p. 408, 409)

"If we get our salvation, we shall have to pass by him [Joseph Smith]; if we enter our glory, it will be through the authority he has received. We cannot get around him [Joseph Smith]" Apostle George Q. Cannon, as quoted in 1988 Melchizedek Priesthood Study Guide, p. 142

"Whosoever... does not confess that God has sent Joseph Smith, and revealed the everlasting Gospel to and through him, is of Antichrist...," Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 8, p. 176

[There is] "no salvation without accepting Joseph Smith. If Joseph Smith was verily a prophet, and if he told the truth...no man can reject that testimony without incurring the most dreadful consequences, for he cannot enter the kingdom of God" Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 1, p.190

"No man or woman in this dispensation will ever enter into the celestial kingdom of God without the consent of Joseph Smith...every man and woman must have the certificate of Joseph Smith, junior, as a passport to their entrance into the mansion where God and Christ are... [Joseph Smith] reigns there as supreme a being in his sphere, capacity, and calling, as God does in heaven. Many will exclaim—"Oh, that is very disagreeable! It is preposterous! We cannot bear the thought!" But it is true." Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, vol. 7, p.289-91

"He that confesseth not that Jesus has come in the flesh and sent Joseph Smith with the fullness of the Gospel to this generation, is not of God, but is anti-christ" Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, vol. 9, p.312

"It is because the Lord called Joseph Smith that salvation is again available to mortal men.... If it had not been for Joseph Smith and the restoration, there would be no salvation," Bruce McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, p. 396, 670

"I tell you, Joseph holds the keys, and none of us can get into the celestial kingdom without passing by him. We have not got rid of him, but he stands there as the sentinel, holding the keys of the kingdom of God; and there are many of them beside him. I tell you, if we get past those who have mingled with us, and know us best, and have a right to know us best, probably we can pass all other sentinels as far as it is necessary, or as far as we may desire. But I tell you, the pinch will be with those that have mingled with us, stood next to us, weighed our spirits, tried us, and proven us: there will be a pinch, in my view, to get past them. The others, perhaps, will say, If brother Joseph is satisfied with you, you may pass. If it is all right with him, it is all right with me. Then if Joseph shall say to a man, or if brother Brigham say to a man, I forgive you your sins, "Whosoever sins ye remit they are remitted unto them;" if you who have suffered and felt the weight of transgression—if you have generosity enough to forgive the sinner, I will forgive him: you cannot have more generosity than I have. I have given you power to forgive sins, and when the Lord gives a gift, he does not take it back again." Orson Hyde, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 6, p.154-155

"You call us fools; but the day will be, gentlemen and ladies, whether you belong to this Church or not, when you will prize brother Joseph Smith as the Prophet of the Living God, and look upon him as a God, and also upon Brigham Young, our Governor” Heber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 5, p. 88

"It is to be feared that in course of a century, some gifted man like Paul, some splendid orator, who will be able by his eloquence to attract crowds of the thousands who are ever ready to hear, and be carried away by, the sounding brass and tinkling cymbal of sparkling oratory, may command a hearing, may succeed in breathing a new life into this modern Mahometanism, and make the name of the martyred Joseph ring as loud, and stir the souls of men as much, as the mighty name of Christ itself. Sharon, Palmyra, Manchester, Kirtland, Far West, Adam-ondi-Ahman, Ramus. Nauvoo, and the Carthage Jail, may become holy and venerable names, places of classic interest, in another age; like Jerusalem, the Garden of Gethsemane, the Mount of Olives, and Mount Calvary to the Christian, and Mecca and Medina to the Turk." Brigham Young, History of the Church, Vol. 7, p.40-41

First President Heber C. Kimball was a "counselor" to Brigham Young and ensuing Lds "prophets" as one of the three highest-ranking in the Mormon hierarchy:

From the article: "You call us fools; but the day will be, gentlemen and ladies, whether you belong to this Church or not, when you will prize brother Joseph Smith as the Prophet of the Living God, and look upon him as a God, and also upon Brigham Young, our Governor” Heber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 5, p. 88

From the article: "Whosoever... does not confess that God has sent Joseph Smith, and revealed the everlasting Gospel to and through him, is of Antichrist...," Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 8, p. 176

Y'all (non-Mormons) didn't know that Mormons think you are of the "anti-Christ," did you? All because you fail to "confess Joseph Smith."

And here I thought the Bible emphasized confessing Jesus Christ!!!!

From the article: [There is] "no salvation without accepting Joseph Smith. If Joseph Smith was verily a prophet, and if he told the truth...no man can reject that testimony without incurring the most dreadful consequences, for he cannot enter the kingdom of God" Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 1, p.190

Joseph Fielding Smith was the 10th "prophet" of the Mormon church...He says "no salvation" -- "no kingdom of God" for you...unless you "accept Joseph Smith."

Obviously Smith is the "the way, the truth, and the life" for the Mormon church:

The cousin of Mitt Romney's father, George -- Marion Romney -- was one of three highest ranking Mormons as a member of the LDS First Presidency. Marion Romney said half a century ago: "This Church is the ensign on the mountain spoken of by the Old Testament prophets. It is the way, the truth, and the life" (Conference Report, April, 1961, pg. 119).

No, Marion Romney. There is NO substitute for Christ! Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6)

Still...Mormons place people like Brigham Young on a high platform by naming their most prominent university after him...And Young claimed that Joseph Smith's "consent" is needed to live forever with Heavenly Father...all because Young regarded Joseph Smith "as supreme a being in his sphere, capacity, and calling, as God does in heaven":

From the article: "No man or woman in this dispensation will ever enter into the celestial kingdom of God without the consent of Joseph Smith...every man and woman must have the certificate of Joseph Smith, junior, as a passport to their entrance into the mansion where God and Christ are... 7, p.289-91

With Joseph Smith’s birthday coming on Dec. 23, Jesus Christ gets plenty of Mormon competition!

Don’t believe me that this doesn’t practically carry itself out?

Then read these posted articles:

“I boast that no man ever did such a work as I.”

This guy is such a stud. Maybe he should do an endzone dance.

Congrats to the “prophet” for getting it exactly wrong.

My hope is that lds and its defenders read the words of lds leaders and their founders to learn, see and take to heart what they are following and defending.
I am mind blown that lds can defend this belief system, and deny that these words have been spoken by those very leaders.
It appears on FR that lds members and defender will deny the words that are right on their computer screens and scream they are not true......even though they are documented, linked to original sources all from lds informational sites.

How Old Is Your Church?

If you are a Lutheran, your religion was founded by Martin Luther, an ex- monk of the Catholic Church, in the year 1517.

If you belong to the Church of England, your religion was founded by King Henry VIII in the year 1534 because the Pope would not grant him a divorce with the right to remarry.

If you are a Presbyterian, your religion was founded by John Knox in Scotland in the year 1560.

If you are a Protestant Episcopalian, your religion was an offshoot of the Church of England founded by Samuel Seabury in the American colonies in the 17th century.

If you are a Congregationalist, your religion was originated by Robert Brown in Holland in 1582.

If you are a Methodist, your religion was launched by John and Charles Wesley in England in 1744.

If you are a Unitarian, Theophilus Lindley founded your church in London in 1774.

If you are a Mormon (Latter Day Saints), Joseph Smith started your religion in Palmyra, N.Y., in 1829.

If you are a Baptist, you owe the tenets of your religion to John Smyth, who launched it in Amsterdam in 1605.

If you are of the Dutch Reformed church, you recognize Michaelis Jones as founder, because he originated your religion in New York in 1628.

If you worship with the Salvation Army, your sect began with William Booth in London in 1865.

If you are a Christian Scientist, you look to 1879 as the year in which your religion was born and to Mrs. Mary Baker Eddy as its founder.

If you belong to one of the religious organizations known as 'Church of the Nazarene," "Pentecostal Gospel." "Holiness Church," "Pilgrim Holiness Church," "Jehovah's Witnesses," your religion is one of the hundreds of new sects founded by men within the past century.

If you are Catholic, you know that your religion was founded in the year 33 by Jesus Christ the Son of God, and it is still the same Church.

Are these recent posting about Joseph Smith, Jr., for real????

Most of these quotes were from the 19th century. Joseph Fielding Smith and Bruce McConkie are from the 20th century. Yes. Real comments. Real Mormon general authorities. Most of them either by Lds "prophets" or "apostles."

Illogical reasoning.

It's like saying if you're a patriarch of a family, it was jumpstarted by you.

But we ALL -- patriarch or not -- go back to Noah and his wife. And before that, back to Adam and Eve.

You have therefore cited something that arbitrarily draws a line in the sand.

What? Did your family start with you, thesaleboat? You had no father or mother? You were some immaculate conception who arrived suddenly on the scene? No heritage?

Look at Martin Luther's history, for example. He didn't name any church after himself. [That was done externally]

Luther considered himself to be part and parcel of the historic church. He was there to REFORM the church; not 100% knock it down and start from scratch.

You have flunked church history.

I guess I should avoid these religious threads...

You sound like a member of the Spanish Inquisition. You conveniently left out when Constantine moved to Constantinople (Now Istanbul for throwbacks like you).

He formed the Eastern Roman Empire which led to the Eastern Orthodox Church. I don't see Orthodox anywhere on your list. You only start with Martin Luther!

Take a look in the mirror and you will see BIGOT!!!

Obviously Smith is the "the way, the truth, and the life" for the Mormon church:

Look at what Smith got up to:

Taking other men's wives and daughters into his own harem.
Boozing and drugging himself up while keeping the riff raff teetotal.
Removing 10% of their income and using it for his own.
Living the high life while others subsistance farmed.
Getting people periodically to uproot and move you and themselves when you got yourself into trouble.

Moammar Ghadaafi could only dream about Smith's accomplishments. Smith's people never turned on him at the end, either.

Founded by Christ and commissioned by the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Funny how the Bible Believers (tm) don't seem to believe that...

This was very simplistic and very wrong. The ROMAN Catholic church of today is VERY DIFFERENT from the Roman Catholic church of the time of the reformation. Martin Luther did not start a new religion. He didn’t want to cause a division within the church. He simply wanted the established church of his day to get back to the faith of the New Testament as taught by Jesus and the Apostles.

Martin Luther lead the reformation in order to RECLAIM that faith.

If you think everything was hunky dory with the Roman Catholic church, then you need to read why how the Jesuits got started in order to train a large number of clergy who couldn’t even read the Bible from which they could not teach. Simultaneously, they were burning people at the stake for distributing copies of Bibles to common folk.
