Pray for our American Heroes
January 14, 2012 | Irish Rose

Posted on 01/14/2012 1:55:48 PM PST by Irish Rose

I have no need of a bull from your stall
or of goats from your pens,
for every animal of the forest is mine,
and the cattle on a thousand hills.
I know every bird in the mountains,
and the creatures of the field are mine.
If I were hungry I would not tell you,
for the world is mine, and all that is in it.
(Psalm 50:9-12)

KEYWORDS: america; military; pray
Dear Lord, we thank You for this day, and we commit to You.

Father, we pray for those in our military who are deployed overseas, that You would protect them and restore them safely to their families. We also ask that You would give them, and their families, comfort and steadfastness until You bring them together again.

Father, we pray for the citizens of our country during the primaries. Give us Your wisdom as we vote. Lord, You know which candidate is best; we ask You to give him success.

Lord, You have no need of anything from us, for the world is Yours, and all that is in it. Every animal of the forest is Yours, and the cattle on a thousand hills; all the creatures of the field belong to You. You know every bird in the mountains, every star in the sky, every blade of grass that grows. All life, strength, joy, and love comes from You. You do not need us, but You have chosen to want us. Small and sinful though we are, You make us the apple of Your eye. We rejoice in Your love, through Jesus Christ our Savior, Amen.

Grieve Not The Spirit

January 15, 2012

If money were missing mysteriously from your wallet, you would be angry. But if you discovered that your child was the one who stole it, your anger would quickly turn into grief. One use of the word grief is to describe the sorrow we feel when those we love disappoint us.

“Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God” (Eph. 4:30) essentially means not to hurt the One who loves us and is here to help us. For we read Jesus’ words in John 14:26 that the Holy Spirit is sent to us by the Father to be our Helper.

When the Holy Spirit in us is grieved by our actions or attitudes, the result can be tremendous tension. The Spirit pulls us in one direction, but the lusts of the flesh pulls us in another. Paul describes this in Galatians 5:17, “For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.” If this continues, we may begin to feel guilty and dissatisfied with life. Soon, joy and vigor may diminish within us, only to be replaced by listlessness and lethargy (Ps. 32:3-4).

So do not grieve the Holy Spirit who was given in love to help you. “Put away” the bad choices of the flesh (Eph. 4:31), and live faithfully for God.

Holy Spirit, all divine,
Dwell within this heart of mine;
Cast down every idol throne,
Reign supreme and reign alone. —Reed

The Christian’s heart is the Spirit’s home.

I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever. —John 14:16

PRAYERS GOING UP FOR OUR AMERICAN HEROES AND FOR OUR BELOVED NATION!

GEORGE WASHINGTON – THE PRAYER AT VALLEY FORGE

In the coldest and darkest days of the American Revolution, General George Washington raised his prayers for the survival of his beleaguered Army and of the new Nation. The Lord answered those prayers, upheld his Army through a punishing nadir to everlasting glory and bestowed His manifold benefits upon the new Nation.

In like manner, let our prayers now rise for our heroes in the American military who seek to secure the benefits of Freedom on behalf of a people hungry for them. Father, look on our prayers for them with favor, guide their steps in righteousness and keep them in the shelter of Your Healing Wings. Bless and uphold them in the performance of their Mission. Through Jesus Christ, Your Son, Amen.

SHADOWS AT ARLINGTON

Heavenly Father, Lord of the Nations, we pray that you vouchsafe the souls of our Fallen to dwell eternally in your Divine Presence, Amen.

Thank you always for praying for our military and our nation. May God watch over you and yours.

There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men. (1 Corinthians 12:4-6)
