“The breath of God produces ice, and the broad waters become frozen. He loads the clouds with moisture; he scatters his lightning through them. At his direction they swirl around over the face of the whole earth to do whatever he commands them. He brings the clouds to punish men, or to water his earth and show his love.

“Listen to this, Job; stop and consider God’s wonders. Do you know how God controls the clouds and makes his lightning flash? Do you know how the clouds hang poised, those wonders of him who is perfect in knowledge? You who swelter in your clothes when the land lies hushed under the south wind, can you join him in spreading out the skies, hard as a mirror of cast bronze?” (Job 37:10-18)

Holy Father, we ask You to quiet our hearts and fix them on You.

Lord, we pray for our troops, that You would keep them safe from the traps and schemes of their enemies. We ask You to expose any infiltrators there may be among them.

Lord, we pray that You would protect Israel from the menace of Iran; give their leaders and ours wisdom and courage to meet this threat.

Your breath, O God, produces ice, and the broad waters become frozen. The clouds hang poised in the sky, those wonders of You who are perfect in knowledge. At Your direction they swirl over the face of the whole earth, to do whatever You command them. You load the clouds with moisture and send them to punish men, or to water Your earth and show Your love. The lightning belongs to You; You scatter it and make it flash. We who swelter in the heat, and shiver in the cold, we cannot join You in spreading out the skies. We kneel before You, the Maker and Lord of all the earth, in the Name of Jesus Christ our Passover Lamb, Amen.

In the coldest and darkest days of the American Revolution, General George Washington raised his prayers for the survival of his beleaguered Army and of the new Nation. The Lord answered those prayers, upheld his Army through a punishing nadir to everlasting glory and bestowed His manifold benefits upon the new Nation.

In like manner, let our prayers now rise lie a fountain for our Heroes in the American Armed Forces who seek to secure the benefits of Freedom on behalf of a people hungry for them. Father, look on our prayers for them with favor, guide their steps in righteousness and keep them in the shelter of Your Healing Wings. Bless and uphold them in the performance of their Mission. Through Jesus Christ, Your Son, with the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever, Amen.
