For men are not cast off by the Lord forever. Though he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love. For he does not willingly bring affliction or grief to the children of men.

To crush underfoot all prisoners in the land, to deny a man his rights before the Most High, to deprive a man of justice— would not the Lord see such things? (Lamentations 3:31-36)

Lord, this is the day that You have made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Father, we pray for our troops, that You will watch over them and that You will deliver them for a good purpose.

Father, as the election draws near we pray that voters would be alert and wise regarding the choice laid before them.

Lord, to crush underfoot all prisoners in the land, to deny a man his rights, to deprive a man of justice – do You not see such things? You do not ignore violence or oppression, nor do You forget the suffering of the afflicted. In due time You punish and avenge the innocent. But You do not willingly bring affliction or grief to the children of men. Men are not cast off by the Lord forever; though You bring grief, You will show compassion. So great is Your unfailing love, Lord, and so unwearied is Your grace. We thank You for a love like this, for a faithfulness that holds onto us even when we are not holding onto You, and we praise You in the Name of Jesus our Savior, Amen.

In the coldest and darkest days of the American Revolution, General George Washington raised his prayers for the survival of his beleaguered Army and of the new Nation. The Lord answered those prayers, upheld his Army through a punishing nadir to everlasting glory and bestowed His manifold benefits upon the new Nation.

In like manner, let our prayers now rise lie a fountain for our Heroes in the American Armed Forces who seek to secure the benefits of Freedom on behalf of a people hungry for them. Father, look on our prayers for them with favor, guide their steps in righteousness and keep them in the shelter of Your Healing Wings. Bless and uphold them in the performance of their Mission. Through Jesus Christ, Your Son, with the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever, Amen.
