What are the sources or inspiration for these subjects?Basically they are inspired by the documents of the Holy See, and in particular by the Catechism of the Catholic Church and its Compendium. This was a deliberate choice so as to create an awareness of the vast richness, completeness and beauty of these documents which are, in some circles, hardly known at all. In this way, it is possible to present the essential and fundamental contents of the faith which are professed, not just by the individual Catholic, but by the Catholic Church throughout the world as it adheres to the Magisterium of the Pope and the bishops. It is this teaching that was willed by Christ himself in order to confirm the faith of individual believers, so that, through the centuries and in various different parts of the world, everyone should profess the one true Catholic and Apostolic Faith.
Why are the topics treated in this work presented in a dialogical way? From an editorial point of view, the arguments are presented in a dialogical manner, that is to say with questions, each of which is followed by a brief response. This dialogical format, while inviting us to continue reading, is born of and remains faithful to a constant and noble catechetical tradition in the history of the Church. It is well known that many catechisms responsible for the faith formation of entire generations used and in a very fruitful way this kind of pedagogical tool. It should not be forgotten that the same Christian faith, a special gift of God, can itself also be described as a continuous dialogue between God with man, and between man and God.
I am also convinced that this approach can help to meet the needs of the todays world, which certainly has an appetite for interviews of a journalistic type, let alone a taste for synthetic sound bites and catchphrases. This may be due in part to the fact that many people nowadays have little time and, even though they say they are Catholics, need to deepen their faith. This lack of time, unfortunately, often leads to religious ignorance, which in turn, results in a widespread relativism, an arbitrary subjectivism and, last but not least, an impressive reduction in mnemonic capacity regarding the contents of faith. This is not only the case in children and young people but also in adults, both in their catechetical journey and in their various and demanding activities and profession.
Why was the sub-title Fragments of Catholic Truth chosen?
The word Fragments was inserted as a sub-title in order to underline the fact that only some of the contents which form the rich and mysterious tapestry of the Catholic Faith, as well some of the challenges that grip the present world, were being presented in this volume. At the same time I would like to stress that, in dealing with each single topic, I do not intend to present all its aspects and contents. For this reason I do not wish due to a lack of space and time to give each subject a comprehensive and complete treatment but merely to offer some suggestions, fragments of reflections.
What is the purpose of this work?It is hoped that it may help people to know the beauty and the importance of the Christian faith that is offered to all in a better way by discussing certain of the issues that characterize our society at this point in time.
For this reason it is aimed at Christians in order to give them the opportunity to know and to deepen certain contents of their faith, and to every person who wishes to know what the Catholic Church, through some of her official documents, believes and lives, with the Lords help.

Ecumenism: What is the relationship of the Catholic Church to the Orthodox Churches, and the non-Catholic Christian communities?
Why does Ecumenism exist? It exists because there are still divisions among Christians. This situation is contrary to the will of Christ who prayed, «that they might all be one» (John 17, 21). In this way the unity of all Christians should be realised so that there would be "one flock and one shepherd" (John 10, 16), and so that "the people of God shall happily arrive at the fullness of eternal glory in the heavenly Jerusalem" (UR 3).
Why is it necessary to distinguish between the unity of the Church and the unity of Christians?
What elements does the Catholic Church have in common With those other Churches and non-catholic Christian communities?
What is the difference between the orthodox Churches and the non-catholic ecclesial communities?
What is the important principle in ecumenical dialogue? In ecumenical dialogue "the principle of fraternal love and the search for reciprocal understanding and common approach are vital; but so too is the need to defend the faith of our people, confirming it in the joyful certainty that the «unica Christi Ecclesia... subsistit in Ecclesia catholica, a successore Petri et Episcopis in eius communione gubernata» («the one Church of Christ... subsists in the Catholic Church, governed by the successor of Peter and the Bishops in communion with him»(LG 8)" (Benedict xvi, Homily, 12-5-07).
How are we to understand the affirmation that the Church of Christ subsists in the Catholic Church? "Christ established here on earth only one Church and instituted it as a "visible and spiritual community", that from its beginning and throughout the centuries has always existed and will always exist, and in which alone are found all the elements that Christ himself instituted. This one Church of Christ, which we confess in the Creed as one, holy, catholic and apostolic [
]. This Church, constituted and organised in this world as a society, subsists in the Catholic Church, governed by the successor of Peter and the Bishops in communion with him". In number 8 of the Dogmatic Constitution Lumen gentium 'subsistence' means this perduring, historical continuity and the permanence of all the elements instituted by Christ in the Catholic Church, in which the Church of Christ is concretely found on this earth. (CDF, Responses to some questions regarding certain aspects of the doctrine on the church, 2).
Why does the Second Vatican Council (Lumen Gentium) use the expression SUBSISTIT IN (SUBSISTS IN) and not the word EST (IS)?
What needs to be done to achieve the unity of Christians?

it's obvious they played hard ball politics ~ with one of them having to serve as a top organizer for the war to drive the Turks out of Hungary, but they must have been serious Christians to have put comity among Christians first.
a united Christendom would have been able to capitalize and push the turks out by the 1600s
Also, if you do get a chance to read about Crimea, do so -- all us Westerners whether Catholic or not have a lot to be ashamed of with this war -- we fought against Christian Russia on behalf of the Moslem Turks..
I sort of stumbled into this topic via Alexis Soyer's A Culinary Campaign.
I have read somewhere that the Crimea war was about an attack or it had its start with the attack of the Church of the Birth of Christ or Nativity.
however both the Russians (as defenders of the Orthodox faith) and France under Napoleon III (pretending to be defenders of the Catholic faith) disagreed with the results
Then in France, Napoleon III was looking for imperial adventure
and in England, they actually thought the Moslems were closer to them than Eastern Orthodox
Catholics and Anglicans and Presbyterians shamefully supported Moslems (and I'm Catholic). Yes there was a political angle behind this (Napoleon III wanting a legacy and both England and France looking for concessions in the Ottoman empire)
