Which is ironic because the African cardinals may be more “conservative” than the Italian and South American cardinals.

I bet their caller ID at the Vatican is blocked to Bill Clinton who keeps calling to ask if they would choose him.

"When does God get involved?"

Don't know? Ask the stripper who speaks in tongues at the "Church of the Howling Rosetta Stone".

Call Pastor Herb Tarlek first, though, as the schedule for services varies from week to week depending on what hours those with gifts will be working at the, "Budda Bing Club".

Or, more to the point, what about this article confuses you to the point where you assume that He is not?

In every age from Adam to John The Revelator, all the leaders of the people of God, were called by God for life. God was directly involved with each of these men. None of them "retired". Especially not for personal interests.

If he's the leader of God's church, how can he just up and decide to "retire"?

Angelo Sodano? A liberal from the 1980s?

It’s His Church.

He is involved.

I see no evidence for either of your statements to be true. I see just the opposite.

History is the Catholic Churches biggest critic for their claims of divine guidance or authorship. Well... that and nearly the entire Bible.

"And it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel." - 1 Samuel 8.

"And Zadok the priest took an horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon. And they blew the trumpet; and all the people said, God save King Solomon." 1 Kings 39 - this occurred before the death of King David.

Sodano is barely six months younger than Pope Benedict.

I don't think the conclave will pick an 85 year old.

You can't tell God is involved with the way things are going here and around the world. Oh man, are we about to find out God is involved...

And, let's start a name suggestion pool. Mine is Pope Finis I.

I don’t think the Protestants and the other non-Catholics realize that this ain’t no joking matter. If we’re going to pull Western civilization out of the gutter it’s sinking into, it will be very important to have a strong, conservative, faithful Pope. And the same thing among Protestant leaders.

If half the Catholics in this country voted for Obama, it’s because they have been poorly led and poorly instructed for the past 40 years or so. There was steady movement in the Church from the Democrat party—which used to be the party of the working class to which most Catholics belonged—to the Republican party, owing mainly to Roe v. Wade and the movement of Democrat politicians toward all kinds of anti-Christian positions. But that movement has slowed, I think.

We desperately need better leadership: A good, strong Pope who will appoint better bishops, who will clean up the seminaries and the nunneries and the Catholic schools. That won’t just help the Church and its members; it will also help the entire country and Western Civilization in general.

Boy, if I was any good at Photoshop, I'm modify the pic of 0. shooting "skeet", add in the peaked pope hat.

A fully authentic baptismal certificate would be produced from somewhere in Hawaii, backdated to 1961. He's be elected to the College of Cardinals on the basis of voting "present" a lot. Then his charisma would knock them over. He's in!

0bama?

Westminster Confession 25.6.

(So my Google skillz tells me. WCF originally, as with many Protestant documents of the time, equated the Roman Pope with the Antichrist. They had their reasons.)

[Me] None of them "retired".

[you] "And it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel." - 1 Samuel 8.

"And Zadok the priest took an horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon. And they blew the trumpet; and all the people said, God save King Solomon." 1 Kings 39 - this occurred before the death of King David.

And you're point is? Samuel was old when his sons became Judges.mmmkay. And God anointed Solomon to be king. So? Surely you're not trying to equate a secular leader with that of being a prophet of God?

Glass houses, and all that.

Could you explain your analogy? Because in this context it doesn't seem to make any sense.

Mine is Pope Finis I.

I realize this is humor of ill intent.

But those who are suggesting that the next Pope would take a name as arrogant as Peter II are off base.

I would also guess that well-worn names like Pius, Gregory, John, Leo, Innocent, Boniface, Clement, Stephen, Urban and Benedict may go by the wayside.

Almost half the Popes have had one of those names.

The Pope is not a "secular leader."

All bishops are anointed.
