Suggestion: Let's post a thread with the names of those cardinals who have not been named by the media.

Possibly Arinze but not Burke or Harvey.

But what everyone knows they need most is someone to carry out a thorough-going reform of the curia, face-down entrenched fiefdoms. Perhaps Arinze can do that, but his age militates against that. That he’s from an affirmative action class/nation, might give him some moral authority but on the other hand, the entrenched Italian mafioso curia types might just laugh at him.

Malcom Cardinal Ranjith of Sri Lanka is most like Benedict theologically, liturgically etc., would be a “protected-class” non-European (don’t criticize him or you’re racist) but whether he has the chops to take on the power-brokers, I don’t know. He might. He just might.

“Malcom Cardinal Ranjith of Sri Lanka ... would be a “protected-class” non-European (don’t criticize him or you’re racist)”

That only works if he were a liberal. Since he’s a conservative he’ll be labeled a dirty wog by the liberal press.

Why can’t Arinze vote?

Cardinals 80 and over are not permitted to vote in the conclave.

From reading, it seems like it’s between...
Peter Erdo (Hungary), Angelo Scola (Italy), Odilo Scherer (Brazil) and Marc Ouellet (Canada)

Nope, I don’t think it will be any of these.

The anti-Christ is supposed to come from Europe so we don’t want a European.

What is the name of the black Cardinal from some African country who is suppose to be a Socialist, and is in the running to replace Pope Benedict? Dear God, if there is anyone who SHOULD NOT BE considered it is this Cardinal...these are very dangerous times for us all. I pray that common knowledge about this socialist Cardinal and common sense and the willingness on the part of the voting Cardinals to do the right thing, will prevail

Group prayer is needed here. Let us pray that no socialist Cardinal becomes Pope.

First of all, it is doubtful Angelo Scola will get it, the Italians had a good run. Second, Peter Erdo of Hungary, not well known, but is possible. Other than because of the upcoming World Youth Day in Brazil, possible but not sure. Same with Ouellet of Canada.

Peter Turkson from Ghana. He was schooled in Rome.
Which would be interesting considering the "Peter the Roman" prophecy of St. Malachy.

He who goes in as Pope, comes out as a Cardinal.
