Glad you got this thread up. When I first posted what was a vanity thread going by the words WHITE SMOKE, I was excited to hear the good news.

FWIW,

Angelo Scola was very heavily involved with Communion & Liberation, which was an Italian movement that was conservative both economically and socially.

I have joked that after two JohnPauls maybe there should be a GeorgeRingo. Apparently Paul and George were both baptized as Catholic and Geo. brought up as one (others were Anglicans/COE)

As in Peter the Roman. ;-)

It's good they didn't choose me, I'd DEFINITELY have been "Peter", just to stir it up.

Can’t wait to go see the Vatican this summer when we go to Europe.

Summer ought to be OK. But I can tell you from experience not to bother on Easter weekend.

"You know, there was once Pope Hilarius. Hilarious II?http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pope_Hilarius" He was made a Saint after death, he should be the Saint of all comedians, although he looks like he was facing a tough crowd, early medieval.

Since I am not Catholic I am not sure the order of the Popes, he was the one from Poland correct?
If we are talking about the same man, I really liked him. Probably read every book he wrote for the general public.
If not, I should learn the names of these men.

He is a spiritual father for all of us. Not for me. Can't speak for anyone else. But thanks for the thought.

I’m curious, what does it mean for the cardinals that didn’t vote for the winner? I mean, if you believe the Holy Spirit picks the Pope and you’re a cardinal that didn’t vote for the winner, what doesn’t that say about your spirituality?

I was, and how I wish she were alive today to witness this moment.

My most treasured item is a rosary I bought there and had blessed at the Vatican - passed on to my child.

And seriously, why is shemp there??

Now that the Vatican Marching Band is there we can send out the Grambling Band and let them battle it out!

Then each of those men is a false prophet. No?

Has there been any speculation regarding the number of people from other countries who are visiting simply to be at the Vatican for the conclave?

Who’s organizing this thing, Live Nation? Delays like at their rock concerts!

The process is not swift with the winner taking a victory lap. After being elected, he was asked "Do you accept?" Unlike the secular world, acceptance means giving up one's previous life. He is then asked what name he will take. After his acceptance, he is taken to the "Room of Tears" where papal dress in different sizes have been assembled. He will then meet with the other cardinals after which he will go to a chapel for some time of private prayer. He will then be announced from the balcony with his own name in Latin, followed by his chosen name. After that he will give his blessing to the crowd and to you!

They are getting restless...

Did not think they would choose this fast, thought it would at least be a month, or so.
