Thats why I don’t miss Fox. He is on in the evening when I get home. Dish bill was too high for what we watched. DIY and History channel is just good for me.

It will be interesting to hear what our more liberal parishioners say.

Seattle area liberals:

The first impressions of Seattle-area clergy, laity and church critics to election of Pope Francis I blended hope for a man who will walk humbly before the Lord and be a force in the world for social justice, along with despair at his orthodoxy on such topics as a celibate male priesthood, same-sex marriage and contraception.

LOL!!!

Many of these are supporters of Vatican II, imho. It has been my limited experience that those who have fallen away from the traditional beliefs of the Church are overwhelmingly supporters of Vatican II. They see it as the best thing that has ever happened to Catholicism.

“...Jesuit, he is definitely a leftist...”

It is never logical to stereotype and generalize. Many Jesuits are leftists, however I am blessed to know a wonderful 80+ year old Jesuit who is deeply conservative and not the least bit liberal!! I was very pleased to get to know him however, because many of the more prominent Jesuits in charge of places such as Georgetown, etc., are liberal and need our prayers to get back on track.

There are conservative Jesuits and the fact that one just became Pope is a HUGE BLESSING and message for the entire church.

I realize that you are right; its just that all the jesuits that I have known were radical leftists.

Especially Jesuits in South and Central America. It's where Liberation Theology came from in the first place. You are right to be concerned. I get the impression that some people don't want an open and honest discussion of the new Pope's views.

Perhaps my conclusions are wrong, but from my reading it appears Pope Francis steered clear of Liberation Theology, but has a record of opposing social welfare cuts in order to get Argentina's endless debt problems under control. It sounds to me like the new Pope is a strong social conservative, but economically somewhere on the populist left (though not a Marxist ). I also found it disappointing to discover Pope Francis has said the British "usurped" the Falklands and that they are Argentinian soil. Perhaps all Argentinians feel that way, but he is flat out wrong and it doesn't strike me as a wise thing for an Archbishop say.

Though not a Catholic, this Pope also seems to have some very good qualities and I will say a prayer for him and hope for the best.
