I'm not a regular reader of Barnhart's stuff but I've read some of it in the past. I've never considered anything she wrote unworthy of reading until this article.
I fail to see the "reason" you speak of. All I saw was a long rant. And an admission of seething hate. I found her lacking reason because she didn't give any credible sources to substantiate her allegations. She didn't state facts objectively but resorted to biased, insulting descriptions. And while acting as if she's an authority on Christianity she displayed a complete lack of Christian charity. Any point she might have made was, for me, lost in her venom. A depth of venom that made her seem less focused and logical than anything I've previously seen from her. I don't recall reading anything especially objectionable from her in the past. But if this is how she'll be writing in the future, I'll take a pass on her articles whatever their subject. Peace be with you.
Am well travelled and have many liberal family members with whom I communicate.
Read recommendations and see they are the opposite of narrow.
I Don’t dismiss Ann, just don’t want nor need to see heer papal smear. That’s all.
Awesome reply. If nobody else chastised this idiot, I was going to do so, but I don’t think I can top yours.
She’s wrong on this particular issue.
Royal Hawaiian Highness...hah...lol...love it!!!
I learned about Jesuits by living next to one in a college dormitory. Let's just say I overheard enough about lack of belief in God to not reject in toto what Ann is saying. The college was kind of a seedy backwater where the Jebbies sent some of their problems. I ran into one at the house of a female relative of a girl I was seeing (they were involved), one dressed like Count Dracula, another wrote movie reviews for Playboy and my dorm counselor claimed to be a pal of the Exorcist. Colorful bunch.
Care to state why you think so?
Went back and re read considering yours and others perspective. Yeah I can see where those from the church taken aback. I give you that.
Being a non catholic, I gotta kinda agree with her on the Jesuit? part. Yes there are exceptions to everything, but in general, all the Jesuit priests I know in the public sector are . . . I want to say scum, but will be nice. They certainly do not share my values. Pretenders many of them, starting with the governor of California and those a holes in the 60's protesting for all things socialism/communism. He being from Argentina, he was in the middle of all that crap. Was he picked out because he withstood all of them. We can only pray.
FWIW I would feel the same about this article if it were written about any leader of any Christian denomination. Or Jewish or other peaceful religion as well. But most especially I feel this way because it's written by a self-identified Christian and its topic is another self-identified Christian. If an author can't show the charity of Christ her points are going to be lost on me because she is showing me she isn't bearing fruit of the Holy Spirit. That's my litmus test :) Zeal I can handle, even when it overexerts itself and bubbles all over the place. But this didn't feel like zeal. It felt like hate :( Thanks for your kind response. IMHO my best response for this woman is prayer, not condemnation.
Amen

That doesnt mean they dont exist. Mentioned above is how the SP was implemented within 48 hours of its dissemination, but without details. It (TLM) was sited in a place described as a crypt, and sufficiently modified so that people stopped coming after a few weeks. As for the Jesuits, Malachi Martin explains their transformation in the 20th century in his book The Jesuits.
Some refer to Ann as being angry (perhaps true), although I see her passion, and perhaps frustration that other worthy candidates were overlooked.
I didn't say there are no sources to substantiate her points. I said she chose not to present any. An attack of that nature without much to back it up is hot air to me. Others are free to see it differently.

Most likely the new Pope will treat the old Tridentine mass as a “rite”, just as there are Eastern Catholic rites in the Church Ann.
Do not be surprised if he does the same for Cardinal Mahoney down the road as well and elevate Archbishop Gomez to the position of being a cardinal.
Who is Ann Barnhardt? Thank God the selection of the Pope is in God’s hands. That’s all I’m going to say about that.
In Argentina, Father Bergoglio was disliked by leftist since the 70’s. That alone, says alot about him. Cardinal Bergoglio opposed the Socialist governments of both, husband and then wife, Kirshners, to the point of being accused being head of the opposition. His confrontation were things like contradicting government reports of poverty, with his own reports, reminding people that poverty had actually increased. Etc. My Argentinian friend says that Christina Kirshner tried to put him in jail. He is a threat to leftist liberals, and that is why the media is in a frenzy.
Message from screamin’ Argentinian Leftist and Nobel Peace Prize winner Adolfo Perez Esquivels website translated by Google translator:
We welcome the appointment of the first Latin American pope in the history of the Catholic Church and its choice of name hopeful Francisco to pursue his papal period.
Hopefully you will work for justice and peace beyond the pressures and interests of world powers. Expect to put aside mistrust Vatican to prominence of the peoples in their liberation. And also encourage social transformations that have been ongoing in Latin America and elsewhere in the world, with the help of popular governments that try to overcome the night of neoliberalism.
We hope you have the courage to defend the rights of the people against the powerful, without repeating the grave mistakes, and sins, which was the Church. During the last dictatorship in Argentina the members of the Catholic Church had not homogeneous attitudes. It is undisputed that there was complicity of much of the church hierarchy in the genocide perpetrated against the people of Argentina, and although many with excessive caution silent efforts made to free the persecuted, few pastors who courageously and decisively took our human rights struggle against the military dictatorship. Jorge Bergoglio not think that has been complicit in the dictatorship, but I think he lacked courage to accompany our struggle for human rights in the most difficult moments.
I am traveling to Italy to celebrate another anniversary of the martyrdom of Archbishop Arnulfo Romero, a conservative minister against repression in El Salvador had his Road to Damascus to the people and gave his life for justice and peace. I hope also that the choice of the name Francisco, one of the most important saints of the Church, expressed in testimony of option and defense of the poor against the powerful and the defense of the environment.
Francois has not inherited an imperial throne chair but the humble fisherman. So we hope do not forget the words of Argentine martyr Bishop, Bishop Enrique Angelelli, when he said that we have heard in the Gospel and one in the village, to know what God says.
Peace and Good

Adolfo Pérez Esquivel
He disapproved of the European intervention in the Libyan civil war and warned against an intervention in Syria.[9] In the aftermath of the Death of Osama bin Laden, he sent a letter to President Barack Obama suggesting the United States killed rather than tried bin Laden because he may have revealed unsettling information about 9/11.[9] He argued, You know that there are people who have investigated the tragic events of 9/11/2001 and claim there is evidence that this was a self-coup (self-inflicted attack).[9] Later, he added, This event was the perfect excuse to launch a war against Afghanistan and Iraq and now against Libya, and referred to the United States an axis of evil.[9]

Mr. Esquivel has been quoted in several recent articles defending the Pope against accusations of his involvement/non-involvement in the “Dirty War”.
The Leftist Jewish organizations ADL, AJC, Bnai Brith and also Muslims also “welcome” the new pope.

Italian descent, higher education in Germany, appointed by JPII, an ecumenist in the same vein as JPII and PE Benedict.
Despite all the clatter about him being “conservative”, he is going to prove out as being a leftist. Sad.
