Survey Says Catholics Upset Over Pope's Catholic Views
CAP News ^

Posted on 03/19/2013 9:01:15 AM PDT by Alex Murphy

WASHINGTON (CAP) - American Catholics this week, while generally happy with the newly elected Pope Francis, expressed disappointment that the new head of the Catholic Church insisted on espousing such Catholic views.

A new study out of the Pew Research Center said that while 74 percent of American Catholics approve of Archbishop Jorge Mario Bergoglio's appointment as pontiff, almost 60 percent wished he held different views on abortion, premarital sex, contraception and same-sex marriage.

"Most respondents questioned why the pope has to be so darn Catholic, to use a phrase that came up over and over again," said Pew spokesman Dr. Francis Spitznagel. In addition to those issues mentioned above, most Catholics weren't thrilled with the new pope's views on adultery and "pretty much any of that sex stuff," said Spitznagel, again quoting the study.

"Just once I'd like to see a pope who didn't have a problem with premarital sex," said Carole Thomson, 29, who describes herself as a "devout Catholic" who nonetheless has never married and has had 19 sexual partners, some of them women.

"It seems kind of backward in this day and age to have the leader of the Catholic Church unwilling to bend on some of these things," she said, referring to the basic tenets of the Catholic religion that the pope is sworn to uphold.

Most Catholics did agree, though, that Pope Francis was an improvement over Pope Benedict, whose excuse for not stopping the church's child sex abuse scandal was that he was hard of hearing and thought the priests were actually "amusing" children.

"Also, we're pretty sure the new guy's not a Nazi, so there's that," said Thomson.

And I’m sure these “Catholics” that don’t like Pope Francis’ “Catholic” views, are devout, Mass attending Catholics. Will this liberal garbage ever end with the media?

That’s OK...we KNOW that TRUTH will be victorious! ;-)

Pray for those who call themselves “Catholic” or “Christian” and do not walk in an intimate relationship with the Lord. They are severely wounded and self-destroying.

Here's a line you missed, Alex:

"Just once I'd like to see a pope who didn't have a problem with premarital sex," said Carole Thomson, 29, who describes herself as a "devout Catholic" who nonetheless has never married and has had 19 sexual partners, some of them women.

ROFL!!! I don't care who you are, that's funny. Both her self-delusion, and the blind idiocy of the reporter, who mistook her for someone that should be taken seriously.

She could call herself a "devout Presbyterian", or a "devout Episcopalian", or a "devout Methodist" or even a "devout Lutheran" and nobody would bat an eyelash at it.

:: Just once I’d like to see a pope who didn’t have a problem with premarital sex,” said Carole Thomson, 29 ::

Well, it’s like this Carole...your use of the term “premarital sex” is a bastardization of the term “fornication” which is addressed in God’s Word. So, Carole, have you discussed your disaggreement with God (or his church representative) and told God that He ought to change His views to be more closely aligned with your cultrually relevant views on “self gratification”?

Carole...?
Carole...?
Bueller...?

Cue the crickets.

The "Catholics" questioned were probably the same type of "Catholics" who pushed back when Our Francis spoke up truth to the Kirchner's. They banned him from their sight.

I am an authentic Catholic. There is a huge difference between one who upholds the Truth and one who flaps their mouth in the wind of change.

Do you think they would dare to question an authentic Catholic if they wanted to prove that Catholics did not agree with the Pope?

If so-called American Catholics feel/think that way maybe they should join the Episcopalians, ELCA, or some other liberal "church" rather than expecting the rest of the planet to bow to their selfish, immoral wishes.

OK ... it's satire.

But answer me this:

Would anyone bat an eyelash at someone like the fictional "Carole" calling herself a "devout Presbyterian", or a "devout Episcopalian", or a "devout Methodist" or even a "devout Lutheran"?

Is not the attitude portrayed by the fictional "Carole" mainstream and officially accepted in the PCUSA, ECUSA, UMC and ELCA?

The fictional "Carole" (or a real person like her) is remarkable only because her (fictional) attitude is contradictory to her (fictional) claim to be Catholic.

Where the Pope’s views line up with the Bible on these topics, what the people really are saying is they really wish the God’s Word wasn’t so “Biblical”.

Everyone has sins they are prone to, that appeal to them more than others. I do. We all have wished some of the sins we really like, that appeal to us personally, weren’t identified as such, and were considered acceptable behavior.

They forget it isn’t his book, it isn’t any Christian leader’s book. It’s not the pastor’s or priest’s book. It’s God’s book to us. We didn’t come up with the book. It’s not one man’s opinion, it’s not a number of men’s personal opinions. It was the inspired Word of God writing through various men across time. It is the actual instructive words of Jesus and his teaching during his ministry on earth.

if they have a beef, their beef is with God, wheresoever the Pope’s views align with God’s Word and trying to uphold them.

You might have mistakenly been reading another of CAP's satire pieces:
"For years, I thought my aides were telling me that people had come forward to say the priests were amusing children in their parishes," said Benedict in a prepared statement released by the Vatican. "With laughter being one of God's greatest gifts to mankind, you can understand why I didn't think this would be a problem."

Benedict claims he reassigned the accused priests, rather than remove them from a position where they would come into contact with children, because he was trying to "spread the laughter"....

....Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi presented the Pope's statement at a press conference Saturday morning, prompting reporters to ask him if they honestly expected people to believe that the failure to effectively deal with hundreds of abuse claims over many decades could be attributed to the Pope being hard of hearing.

"Well, I'll say this about that," responded Father Lombardi, before shuffling his notes around a bit, pausing for a full two minutes, and then saying, "Um ... that's all we got."
