Hey Remember When Polygamy Had Nothing to do with Gay Marriage? Yeah Well...
Creative Minority Report ^ | June 27, 2013 | Matthew Archbold

Posted on 06/28/2013 7:16:07 AM PDT by NYer

Traditional marriage advocates have long argued that once you establish that marriage is simply a contract between consenting adults, polygamy is a necessary logical outgrowth. And every time we attempted to raise this point, others explained to us to shutup.

Well, it seems that shutup time is done as polygamists are celebrating The Supreme Court's decision as well.

Buzzfeed reports:

The Supreme Court’s rulings in favor of same-sex marriage Wednesday were greeted with excitement by polygamists across the country, who viewed the gay rights victory as a crucial step toward the country’s inevitable acceptance of plural marriage.

Anne Wilde, a vocal advocate for polygamist rights who practiced the lifestyle herself until her husband died in 2003, praised the court’s decision as a sign that society’s stringent attachment to traditional “family values” is evolving.

“I was very glad… The nuclear family, with a dad and a mom and two or three kids, is not the majority anymore,” said Wilde. “Now it’s grandparents taking care of kids, single parents, gay parents. I think people are more and more understanding that as consenting adults, we should be able to raise a family however we choose.”

“We’re very happy with it,” said Joe Darger, a Utah-based polygamist who has three wives. “I think [the court] has taken a step in correcting some inequality, and that’s certainly something that’s going to trickle down and impact us.”

Noting that the court found the Defense of Marriage Act unconstitutional because the law denied marriage rights to a specific class of people, Darger said, “Our very existence has been classified as criminal… and I think the government needs to now recognize that we have a right to live free as much as anyone else.”...

But polygamists in the United States, where bigamy is a crime, have taken cues from the marriage equality movement, and the few public champions of the lifestyle have deliberately positioned themselves as libertarian-minded gay rights advocates as well. Following gay rights activists’ lead, polygamist families — like the Browns, with their TLC reality show Sister Wives, and the Dargers, who came out with a book last year — have come forward to convince the American public that their lifestyle can be wholesome and normal...

“I’m not a fortune-teller, but it seems like if more people are accepting of gay marriage, it would follow that polygamist marriage wouldn’t be criticized quite so much.”
Anita Wagner Illig, a leading polygamy activist, told U.S. News & World Report that gay-rights campaigners had set a welcome precedent. "We polyamorists are grateful to our brothers and sisters for blazing the marriage equality trail," she said.

So when we talk about gay marriage meaning the destruction of marriage, we kinda' mean it.

In presenting the SCOTUS ruling the other day, a local news anchorette used the term "Gay Americans" .... as though being "gay" equated to a race. Does protocol then follow that a gay African American should identify himself as such? Following such logic, how do we then classify the un gay. "Hello, my name is Bill and I am a "Straight, Caucasian, Italian American"?

This is reminiscent of the various colored ribbons worn to show support for a particular cause. The absurdity of that era was best demonstrated by Rush Limbaugh who showed up on his (short lived) tv program one evening, sporting every colored ribbon available.

The nuclear family, with a dad and a mom and two or three kids, is not the majority anymore

And this is the whole point - the destruction of the family.

Part of the problem was the “two or three kids.” That’s not a natural average.

It’s not average in the circles I run in, for sure... :)

Of course, the circles I run in don’t believe the humanist lies, either.

Legality and morality are two separate things.

Now that legal marriage has defined itself to be immoral, churches should abandon the practice of having their followers register their marriages with the state.

Let the deviants have their mouthful of ashes.

Threesome and foursome marriages will be legal in at least one state by 2025. You might as well prepare for it, and the ramifications of Congress and the Senate trying to imagine how social security or benefits will work in such a deal. It’ll trigger three years being carved off the social security program.

The more curious event that will occur by the end of next year....is some 13-year old boy who wants to marry a forty-five year old man, in New Hampshire, and they have to sue a judge to sign approval...because the parents refuse to do so. This will trigger up a hundred guys rushing up to find themselves a ‘young friend’ to marry.

Legally-recognized “polyamory” isn’t going to make its practitioners any happier than just doing it has, and the same for homosexuals. Life doesn’t work when you believe lies about human nature, any more than it does when you believe lies about gravity.

Yeah, I remember hearing this argument time and time again. All I could do was say "Polygamy has been far more prevalent throughout human history than gay marriage. How do you ignore such precedent?"

But to a libtard, nothing in history matters until they arrived on the scene . . . unless it is convenient to push their agenda.

Well, what would one expect when you take foundational religious rites, morality, societal betterment and normal natural predilection out of the equation?

We typically think of Mormon's when we hear polygamy. But let us not forget polygamy is a big part of Islam as well. I wonder if the country is ready to see a male Muslim's with a cadre of burka covered women following him around?

I see it, along with amnesty will come full blown muslim immigration. Groups like CAIR will no longer feel the need to remain silent, since polygamy is part of Sharia. We'll get polygamy laws along with laws against "insulting the Prophet of Islam (Peace be upon him)".

The real fun will come when the uneasy alliance (think Hitler/Stalin non aggression pact) between the secular left and the muslims is broken. CW II here we come

And scarily, enough the same argument could be made for adult/child marriage. For most of history and even in many cultures today, girls are married off at 12 or 13 and in some cases even as young as 8.

Am I the only one who is more inclined to accept polygamy than homosexuality? At least there is some biblical and traditional arguments precedence and at least they can procreate.

"Threesome and foursome marriages will be legal in at least one state by 2025."

Much sooner than that in my humble opinion. It will be fun to watch some of those that supported gay marriage and homosexual rights try to demonize polygamy as it will take some of the spotlight off their cause.

This is coming, there is no way to stop it.

Robert Heinlein wrote about the construction of Line/Clan and Group marriages in The Moon is a Harsh Mistress and while it is science fiction, it exposed me to such notions while I was in my teens, in fact I read about gay unions and homosexual practices in sci-fi long before the issue was on the national stage.

Yeah, but that’s just because you put some authority in the Word of God...

it’s a white cultural bias on your part.

Took only 48 hours before district courts were presented with petitions to end the prohibition of polygamy.
The courts no longer have an argument against it.

Yes, but there will be homosexual polygamy, and polygamy involving transsexuals where one person will be wife to another person and husband to someone else. That's how enlightened people do it, not like you bible-thumping, one-person-of-the-opposite-sex-marrying troglodytes. /heavy sarc.

The country is done. It is fractured and bankrupt. Time to make the split official.
