Pope Francis and Gays: “Loving the Sinner” Is Still Intolerance (Thanks for clarifying that, Time)
Time ^ | July 30, 2013 | Tim Padgett

Posted on 07/30/2013 11:25:09 AM PDT by Mrs. Don-o

It's hardly surprising that the world, especially Roman Catholics like myself, is breathlessly decoding what Pope Francis told reporters on his flight back to Rome from Brazil on Monday regarding homosexuality: “If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?”

The Pope’s remarks... hardly represent a break with Catholic church doctrine, which still condemns homosexuality. The Vatican’s catechismal stance regarding the LGBTs in our midst remains the same: The church may love the sinner, but it hates the sin. And since Francis was referring specifically to gay priests—who like other Catholic clerics take a vow of celibacy and so don’t commit the “sin”— His Holiness wasn’t exactly going out on a theological limb.

But at a time when the world is increasingly accepting gay rights and even gay marriage, here ‘s what’s really significant about the Pope’s statement: The love-the-sinner-but-hate-the-sin trope no longer carries much if any moral credibility.

How—given our awareness today that homosexuality is as biological as heterosexuality, and that homosexual relationships have proven as valid and socially enriching as straight ones— can we take any religious leader seriously when he claims to love gay people but at the same time demonizes the consummation of their love for each other?

How, for example, can the Catholic church declare homosexuals “disordered” and their lifestyle an “intrinsic moral evil,” yet expect us to applaud its “love” for gays somewhere beneath all that homophobic bigotry?

My mother was born in Mississippi and has often told me of Southern whites in the mid-20th century insisting they could love a black person even if they hated the black race. No, you can’t .... When he was Archbishop of Buenos Aires he called Argentina’s legalization of gay marriage a “grave anthropological regression.”

I love drug abusers but hate drug abuse. As a matter of fact I display my love toward them by doing whatever is in my power to get them to stop abusing drugs. Am I intolerant and hateful?

“You Can’t Handle The Truth”

**********WARNING GRAPHIC DESCRIPTIONS*************

“If you really love people you tell them the truth.

Seventy-eight percent of male homosexuals have or had a sexually transmitted disease. Two thirds of all the AIDS in the US are a direct result from homosexual behavior. Fifty percent of all homosexuals have gonorrhea. Homosexual young
people are twenty-three times more likely to get a sexually transmitted disease.

In San Francisco, the sexually transmitted disease rate is twenty-two times higher than the national average. Lesbians are fourteen times more likely to contract syphilis, four times more likely to have scabies, and three times more
likely to get breast cancer.

Only three percent of homosexuals are fifty-five years and older. And only one percent die of natural causes, a la, old age. The life expectancy of a male homosexual in America is forty-two years old.

How do I say to someone I really care about, and the premise is you really care, that, “Oh, whatever you want to do is okay.” You only live half as long. And like a domino, what happens to you, you will infect other people. By the gay’s report, forty percent of homosexual men have between one hundred to five hundred partners.

Important because, again, it’s, we have these ethereal pictures and we’re not honest and clear about how homosexual practice works.

The high rate of disease among homosexual males is due to unhealthy sexual practice. Ninety-eight percent of homosexuals engage in oral sex, ninety percent
practice sex with their partner in anal sex. This is biological suicide since the rectum was not designed to accommodate a thrusting penis or sex toys. During such activities the anal wall is torn and bruised, giving sperm and germs direct access to the blood stream. Since the anal wall is only one cell thick, sperm quickly penetrates the wall, causing massive immunological damage to the body’s T and B cell defense mechanisms. This doesn’t happen during vaginal sex because of the multi-layered construction of the vagina.”

“Genetic” isn’t the only way to be “biological.”

Homosexuality is a biological mistake and an evolutional dead end. (Guys like this are all about evolution, aren't they?)

He used the term “gay,” which is political double-speak.

Don’t know who Tim Padgett is.

But anyone who characterizes himself as “gay” is either political about it, or justifies his own participation in homosexual behavior. Not everyone with same-sex attraction, or even who indulges in homosexual behavior, is “gay.”

And anyone who uses this terminology to reference all homosexuals is buying into this mindset.

Let me know if you need elaboration on my statements.

Maybe alchholism is biological as well as psychological as well. But There is not equivalent to AA among homosexuals, even though, for men at least, their lifestyle is just as destructive of their health.

How Pope Francis feels about the word "abomination"? (The word "feels" is kinda throwing me.)

I just looked up abomination in an online concordance. Worth a careful look. Not just homosex, but a lot of other things as well.

Yeah we know. But if one does not deny those facts, one must be a hater and a bigot and a homophobe and that one must be ridiculed or silenced altogether.

Crazy, huh?
