The founder of liberation theology, the Latin American-inspired Catholic theology advocating for the poor, received a hero’s welcome Tuesday at the Vatican as the once-criticized movement continues its rehabilitation under Pope Francis. The Rev. Gustavo Gutierrez of Peru was the surprise speaker Tuesday at a book launch featuring the head of the Vatican’s orthodoxy office, Cardinal Gerhard Mueller; one of Francis’ top advisers, Cardinal Oscar Rodriguez Maradiaga; and the Vatican spokesman.

Pope Francis is NOT in favor of Liberation Theology, no matter how much the media tries to make it seem that he is.

He wrote the intro for Mueller's book on liberation theology. How could that be construed as anything but an endorsement?

Ever notice most of the anti-Catholic bigots are really latent homosexuals? Just saying.....

I did not know that - are you an expert on the subject?

More to the point, how many interactions does it take to arrive at the conclusion "most of"? Is that what they call "cruising"?

God help us. Fellow FReeper Catholic who are political conservatives else you wouldn't be on FR, please wake up and smell the coffee. You should cease and desist from calling yourselves conservative FReepers if you can't make a stand against this Marxist Pope. This needs to be put in caps:

THE ONCE-CRITICIZED MOVEMENT (Marxist Liberation Theology) CONTINUES ITS REHABILITATION UNDER POPE FRANCIS

Your comments stirs me to repost something I posted to the thread, “Fascination with Francis Stirs Protestants Hearts.” It caused a bit of heat on that thread, but, sad to say with this latest news, it turns out I was spot on. This lead article confirms what many of us here have seen all along about this Pope. Now it’s out in the light of day for all to see.

In that thread, I said:

I have zero fascination for this Marxist Pope, ‘Stirs Protestant hearts?’ Give me a break!

Put a Marxist in charge of the Roman church, the Catholic FReepers cover for him at every step, they do it all the time on the RF. Whatever political conservatism they might have goes out the window it seems, it apparently doesn’t mean diddly to a Catholic.

Bizarre! “Marxist” to these hateful ignoramuses is the synonym of “bad”! Did I say bizarre?

“And it’s also the reason why the Evangelical churches have spread so far.”

I don’t accept your rationale for why any number of Evangelical churches have spread, in the Hispanic world or anywhere else.

Pope John Paul II and Benedict XVI proscribed Liberation Theology as a beachhead of Marxists into the Catholic Church. As soon as Pope Francis took power, he wide open the doors of the Church to the leaders of the Marxist Liberation Theology. QUO O VADIS, FRANCIS?
