VATICAN CITY - Pope Francis on Monday declared that everyone has the right to be baptized, even aliens should they come knocking on the church's door.

Christians cannot "close the door" to all those who seek baptism even if they are "green men, with a long nose and big ears, like children draw," the pope said at his daily Mass, according to Vatican Radio.

If they didn’t have souls, why would they want baptism?

>>Do animals have souls? Why or why not.
(I’m guessing Rome says yes)<<

I think the official RCC word is they do not. But the converse part of that is that God, being omniscient, can recreate in our pets in the afterlife exactly the attributes they brought to us in life.

Our love for them is real, their love for us is real, but the relationship is different.

I’ve seen a chimpanzee smoking a cigar while rollerskating—backwards, with his hands behind his back.
And he looked pretty pleased with himself, the cocky little ape. Should we baptize chimps too?
Martians, primates, democrats and gingers have no souls I tell ya!

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought in Roman Catholic theology, baptism took away Adam’s sin. A Martian would not be a descendant of Adam, so why baptize? “Verily Christ took not on him the nature of angels, but he took on him the seed of Abraham;” there is no salvation for fallen angels, but there is for the fallen sons of Adam.

Souls are the life giving principle of all living things. It is what makes a body different than a corpse, a tree different than a log. Following Aristotle, there are three kinds of levels of souls. The first is the vegetive souls which pertains to plants. It has the faculties of growth, nutrition and reproduction. The animal soul, common to animals, adds to these faculties those of the senses and self motion. The rational soul, common only to man, adds the faculties of reason and free-will. The powers of the vegetative and animal souls, being tied to the activity of the body, cease with death and are thus not immortal. Reason and free will of the rational soul, not being bodily functions, survive after the death which is but the separation of the soul from the body. And it is only the rational soul of man which has the power to love or to sin. It is the only one capable of redemption by God and union with Him in eternal life.

“I have sheep that are not of this fold.”

It is debatable what that means, and I have not delved into the original word. But the translated word certainly opens it up for ETs.
