American Christians have become a lot more tolerant of homosexuality over the past eight years, according to a landmark study released by the Pew Research Center on Tuesday that showed big gains in acceptance since the last time the study was conducted in 2007. The 2014 Religious Landscape Study, a survey of more than 35,000 Americans, examined a vast array of religious and social issues, including immigration.
The study concluded that nearly all major religious groups have become significantly more accepting of homosexuality -- and almost all Christian groups are more accepting than they were in 2007. It holds true even for evangelical Protestants and Mormons, who have traditionally strongly opposed same-sex relationships.
Overall, 54 percent of all self-described Christians said homosexuality should be accepted by society -- up from 44 percent in 2007. Among Catholics, the percentage jumped from 58 percent in 2007 to 70 percent in 2014. And 36 percent of evangelicals (of all races) and Mormons called for more acceptance, up from 26 percent and 24 percent, respectively. Among members of historically black Protestant churches, the acceptance rate jumped from 39 percent in 2007 to 51 percent in 2014.
"Despite attempts to paint religious people as monolithically opposed to LGBT rights, that's just not the case, and these numbers prove that," Jay Brown, head of research and education at the gay rights organization Human Rights Campaign Foundation, told the Religion News Service.

What does “accepted by society” mean?
“accepted” has a very broad definition thats open to lots of interpretation and overlaps with things like “tolerated”
Ask those same “accepting” Roman Catholics whether transgendered boys should be allowed to use their daughter’s school locker room, or whether their Church should be required to marry gay couples and you might find that there are serious limitations on “acceptance”.
It means accepted as equivalent and normal I think, like moral relevancy.
So means sin. Darn phone typing: sorry.
I lot of people probably read that as "be nice to them," which most of us can agree with. And by "them," they have the picture projected by t.v. sitcoms where professional, masculine, non-militant "gays" are the rule.
Accepted as what you do in your house with another adult is yours and God’s business not mine. When you bring it out of your house and in my face or it affects me or others who do not want it, then I no longer “accept” it.

Also, Catholics ought to start reading the Holy Bible for themselves instead of letting others tell them what it says. After all, relying on other people tell us about what the Constitution says has turned out to be a very big problem.
I’ve always been in the 30% group and expect that percentage to shrink as the Catholic Church schisms into progressive and traditionalist (the smaller one) factions.
I'm guessing many queried attend "seeker churches" that fail to teach what it means to follow Christ (some of these pastors actually admit that their attendees' faith is wide but 1/2" deep when it comes to being fully immersed in the faith!)
For example, NO, you don't fire your furnace repair guy because you think he's homosexual.
But YES, you do fire your parish DRE if she's gotten married to her girlfriend.

This is simply not true. 70% of Catholics do not think homosexuality should be accepted by society. Real, church-going Catholics believe homosexual acts are a sin and do not believe it should be accepted by society. The polling is suspect of twisted.
People with the tendency are accepted by Catholics but not what they do when they give in to temptation.
At least half of American catholics aren’t catholic.

The world is upside down. The perverted is respected and the conventional is being treated like it should be shunned.
